1953 Studebaker Commander Additional Info:

This is a fine example of an original, un-restored Studebaker Commander Starlight Coupe. It belonged to a good friend of mine who passed away a few years ago. His father bought the car brand new in 1953 and gave it to my friend sometime in the early 60's. He rarely drove it for all the years he owned it as he was collector of Dodge Power wagons and he preferred to drive them. The car was stored indoors from early 1990 until I acquired it from his niece, who inherited the car, in early 2016. She never drove it.
The odometer reading is correct and has not been rolled over.

It has the original 232 V8 that runs well and does not smoke at all. (That is steam coming from the exhaust in the pics. It was cold when I took the pictures) The interior is all original and shows it's age in spots. The car has the original 3 speed with overdrive that works well, but has been converted to a top shift configuration. The car has a 12v alternator that was installed in Sept of 1989. The electrical system is somewhat unique in that it uses 2 6V batteries. This is due to the fact that all of the lighting is still 6V. All the vehicle electrical is run off of one of the 6V batteries. This makes it easy to put back to the original 6V positive ground system if wanted. Unfortunately, the original air cleaner location is taken up by the second battery and it was nowhere to be found in the estate. The tires were put on new in 1989 at 85,738 miles. There is a very small rust hole (appx 3/16") along the left seam of the floorpan just forward of the door. If you wish photos of this area, please message me.
Since I acquired the car, I have done the following:
Repacked the front wheel bearings, replaced the wheel seals, and inspected the brakes. The brakes have about 75% life left on them.Removed the rear drums and inspected the brakes. They also have about 75% life left on themChanged all fluids and lubed all grease pointsReplaced the fuel tank. The original tank was varnished up with old gas from sitting.Replaced the rubber fuel hoses.Replaced the driveline carrier bearing mounting bushings.
This car is a runner and driver.
