1968 Shelby Fastback Additional Info:

1968 SHELBY COBRA GT500KR (KING OF THE ROAD)

Rare highly original early KR production. For sale by owner. If you are looking for a great looking solid original 428 Cobra Jet GT500KR loaded with the 1968 Shelby options and fairly low mileage, then this is the Shelby for you. I would describe this Shelby as an occasional driver/show car. It is not a concours trailered Shelby. But, it would not take much to put it into that condition. This KR currently has approximately 105,429 original miles. Previous owner had this Shelby for almost 14 years. This KR is in the Shelby registry, and previous owner was a member of the Mustang Club of America and served on their Board of Directors.

During the short 9-month production of the 1968 Shelby the GR500KR’s had a shorter 3 month production run in May, June and July. This KR was scheduled for build May 8, 1968. This car was actually built on April 29 nine days ahead of schedule and shipped to Southside Motor Company in Jacksonville, Florida. This is one of the first KR’s to be built of 933 KR Fastbacks, and one of 299 Acapulco Blue with air conditioning. This KR still has it’s original drivetrain (428 Cobra Jet motor, C6 auto transmission, differential, carburetor, etc.). It also has all of its correct identification tags vin/serial numbers, fender stamps, dash tag, engine bay vehicle build tag, motor tag, door data plate etc. Most of the parts are original or correct for this car. The sheet metal on this Shelby is very straight with no rust that has been found. All components work as it should other than the clock in the dash. This Shelby was undercoated back in the late 60’s to early 70’s which has protected underside sheet metal wonderfully. Interior is highly original and the exterior was repainted original Acapulco Blue with painted on white Shelby LeMans stripes in 2003. Differential/rear end exterior completely refreshed, brake calipers with new rotors and pads. Suspension; upper/lower A-frames, control arms, idler arm, power steering components with new hoses. Complete original air-conditioning system with correct hardware, all new factory style hoses, and compressor has original tag. Motor has fresh Ford Blue paint and installed new four row core radiator on original tanks still showing original part numbers with original fan blade and working fan clutch. Holley carb rebuilt to factory specs dyed and stamped. The mufflers have been replaced with Flowmaster exhaust. The factory manifolds are original to the car. No cutting or drilling has been done to this car to install any parts. Also included, are the original KR exhaust tips that came with the car that will need to be re-chromed. Has Monroe air shocks in the rear and the front shocks are original type.

Minor issues with car. Rear main seal has a small leak. Typical of cars not driven frequently. The power steering also leaks slightly. There is a small fiberglass patch on the underside of the hood. The dash clock is not working. Can see slight bubbles at the top of quarter at roof lead seam.

Previous owner had glove box door and manual autographed by Carroll Shelby himself. Car also has Marti Report. Also comes with documentation, receipts and copies of previous owners paperwork.
