1980 Replica/Kit Makes 1929 Mercedes-Benz SSK roadster replica Additional Info:

If you have ever thought of building a kit car, but the cost was too much, or you are just looking for a bargain, this is your chance. Back about 1988 I had just rebuilt the four banger in my daughters Ford when the trans and brakes went bad. I kept the car as the engine had less than 10000 on the rebuild. Then came a great idea. I would build a kit car. I bought the Gazelle with the custom frame which would accept Ford Pinto parts. I bought a 1980 Pinto with a blown engine for a donor car. I got a good start on the car that summer, but the following years, not so much. There was a pickup that needed a lot of work, a buying and moving to a farm, helping the wife with her farm, and all this time I was a long haul truck driver with not a lot of time at home, Plus, I had lost interest. Then in the winter of 2013/14 with a new shed/workshop almost completed, the roof of the shed the car was in collapsed under a snow load. The car was not damaged, but could not moved until spring when the shed could be torn down. During this time the roof settled and caused the damage shown in the pictures. I have realized, with my wife’s help, that I will never get it finished, so it is time to see if I can sell it.

When building the chassis, I cleaned painted and installed new or rebuilt parts. Just for example the A frames were rust removed painted with new bushings and ball joints. There are new shocks and tires, although I don’t know how good tires are after all these years. The floor can be fixed and will be covered with carpet. The break in the body is the only repair that will be noticeable. The assembly directions require a wood reinforcement behind that area so strength will not be a problem.

I invested more than $8,000. The bill of sale I have shows $5,760 just to Fiberfab. That has to be applied for when the car is built. What that requires is the bill of sale and a certificate of origin which I have and will supply along with the assembly instructions. If you wish more info on this car, look it up . You can find much more info on the car with a google search then I could include here.

NOTE: There is no title, and the year would be 1988. This form required an entry for title. Title has to be applied for after the car is built.

  • I don’t expect to get much out of it so shipping will be the buyers responsibility. I could deliver it within a hundred or so miles. I would charge $1.50 a mile.
