1989 Porsche 928 S4 - Clean CARFAX, No Accidents, Books & Records Additional Info:

Offered for sale is an absolutely gorgeous, extremely original, 44k original mile, mechanically strong and well-documented 1989 Porsche 928 S4, finished in rare Stone Grey Metallic over burgundy leather, a striking color combination. Always garaged, always professionally maintained and always driven sparingly, the car’s original 44k miles are documentable through a stack of service records, the original stamped service booklet and a completely clean CARFAX report. Never in any accidents, the Stone Grey Metallic finish is entirely original, with the exception of the rear wing, which the previous owner had color-matched so that it looked like his 928 GTS. With the exception of an updated sound system and 17” OEM Porsche Turbo Twist wheels, the rest of the car remains original as well, however the stock original wheels remain with the previous owner and can be forwarded at cost.

As Porsche’s first significant, front-engine Grand Tourer, the 928 drew the initial ire of enthusiasts worldwide, but as soon as they realized it wasn’t to replace the beloved 911 (rather to compliment it in a Porschephile’s garage), opinions changed. A big V8 Autobahn bomber, the 928 was far more civilized than the 911, boasting big cushy seats, power everything, usually an automatic transmission and all the Star Wars/Reagan era futuristic design elements that a successful 1980’s man could ask for. It was and remains a true GT cruiser; extremely comfortable with a powerful and torquey V8 making smooth, enjoyable driving effortless. Furthermore, in following with Porsche’s legendary legacy, the handling is great and the looks are timeless.

As the pictures show, the Stone Grey Metallic finish is in gorgeous original condition. Deep, lustrous and marred only by a few minimal scuffs on the front bumper and a few other incredibly minor imperfections, the finish cloaks the car’s entirely straight body which retains consistent panel fits and gaps throughout. Never in an accident, the car’s body is entirely original, the doors, trunk and hood all retaining their original, numbers matching panel stickers. The glass and rubber are in excellent original shape, as are the Turbo Twist wheels, wrapped in BF Goodrich tires with plenty of remaining tread. The car’s interior is equally impeccable, the burgundy leather seats and carpets showing virtually now wear whatsoever, the dash free of any cracks or warping and the headliner flawless. The power sunroof, power seats, power windows, power rear hatch locking device, A/C and all of the other electronics work exactly as they should.

The car retains its inflatable spare, air compressor and original tool kit (complete save for the pliers), as well as its original manual, stamped service booklet, multiple keys and a thick stack of records documenting a consistent and attentive service history. In addition to routine services to the engine, brakes, transmission, etc., it’s worth noting that the timing belt, water pump and front seals were all replaced by a Porsche dealer service center at 29k miles.

The car is also excellent mechanically, feeling like a tight, well-maintained, low original mileage example should. Despite its low miles, the car was never neglected for any period of time, rather driven regularly (albeit sparingly) and professionally serviced, always garaged and professionally detailed. The car starts effortlessly, producing a low rumble to announce its 316hp 5.0L V8, and it’s a joy on the road, smooth through each of the gears and pulling with impressive force when asked. With its quiet cabin and even drive quality, it’s very easy to look down at your gauges on the freeway and realize you’re doing 95mph when you assumed you were only a hair over 70. Despite the fact it’s a front engine V8, it’s still a Porsche and it performs with poise in the canyons as well as on the freeway.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire what is undoubtedly one of the best, most original 928 S4s on the market today. With vintage Porsches appreciating faster than nearly any other marque (save for Ferrari), the outlandish numbers that 356s and 911s have been realizing have made the 928 a legitimate and unique collector’s car, the epitome of a modern classic. Rare and tasteful colors, impeccable condition, low miles, documented history, 5.0L engine, etc.…If you’ve been looking for a 928S4, it’ll be difficult to find a better example.
