1970 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ Hardtop Additional Info:

Beautifully preserved, one-owner example finished in a desired triple black color configuration! Factory appointed with the top-of-the-line SJ option package, it hides a power 455ci V8 under the hood making 370hp/500 lb. ft. of torque! Fully optioned with all power accessories, air conditioning, tinted window glass, rear defrost, and so much more! Stunning car with just 45,322 miles on the odometer! It will be hard to replace this one!
Under the direction of John DeLorean, the Pontiac Grand Prix found a dramatic redesign to renew the midsize luxury car. Already competing against the GM-produced Cutlass and Riviera for sales, it also found solid ground challenging the Ford Thunderbird and Dodge Challenger is the same intermediate size class. To save in production cost, Pontiac shard the A-body 118" wheelbase chassis with the Lemans/GTO, although distinctly different in their body shells! The revised Grand Prix would have a very pronounced front grill, and the longest hood in Pontiac history! It would originally be offered with a choice of two 400ci and 428ci V8 variants, with both an S or SJ trim levels. In 1970, the selection would still include a 400ci option, but find the 428ci replaced by the 455ci option producing 370 horsepower and a whopping 500 lb. ft. of torque! Today, finding a highly optioned and well maintained Grand Prix can be quite challenging, and surprisingly, priced well below their GTO brethren fitted with similar options. We would recommend a smart investor to play close attention to this marketplace. While the Trans Am's and GTO's continue to grow in investment value, one should not lose sight in Pontiac's finer luxury offerings.
We are very proud to offer this one-owner 1970 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ455 Sport coupe finished in Starlight Black with matching Black vinyl top and Black leather bucket seat interior! This custom ordered example sold new from Bill Abbott Pontiac on April 24th, 1970 to its original and only owner ever since! He originally resided in Champaign, IL, before later moving to Fenton, MI, always protecting his cherished investment from the elements. It retains a 100% numbers matching drivetrain to include a 455ci-4bbl V8 with Turbo-Hydramatic 400 automatic transmission. Options include air conditioning, power disc brakes, power steering, Delco AM/FM radio with front & rear speakers, tilt steering column, rear window defrost, 2-speed wipers with windshield washer, power windows & locks, bucket seats, center console with glove box and an internal lamp, under hood service light, trunk lamp, dual outside mirrors, 14" Rally II wheels with BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires, all tinted glass, wheel lip moldings, rocker moldings, and more!
The uniqueness of the redesigned Grand Prix captures some attributes found on no other Pontiac of the era. The door handles for instance offer a flush-mounted design with a "pop-out" feature typical of custom hot rods built today. They also found a radio antenna built into the front windshield as to not steal from the body lines, as well as the heated rear window and side door impact beams for added safety. This example was built in April 1970, and stayed in the care of the original owner all its life! Today, the odometer shows just 45,322 miles on the odometer. Recent servicing included a compete transmission drain and fill with new filter, new battery, air conditioning service in June 2019, as well as all new shocks, tires, radiator and heater hoses in 2014. A complete brake service with new master cylinder was conducted in 2006.
It remains a remarkable example with what is believed to be 80% original exterior paint, all original interior, completely original trunk compartment with factory spare tire, jack, wrench, and matting material! Also included with the sale of this special Grand Prix SJ455 is the original owner's manual, warranty booklet, Protect-O-Plate, Consumer Information insert, and service records dating back to 1984. A wonderful example to see in person, and one even better to enjoy driving down the road! It showcases an excellent rust free body, original window glass, and certainly one easily determined to be a one-of-a-kind original example in today's market! Please feel free to call with questions or to schedule a chance to review it in person. This is definitely one to consider seriously in you are an astute Pontiac collector!
