1981 Pontiac Trans Am Additional Info:

1981Turbo Trans Am Daytona Pace Car / 58K Miles

Incredibly solid and well maintained Trans Am. Only 2,000 Daytona Pace Cars were made, and this is a great example. I buy and sell a lot of second generation TAs and this is one of the best I’ve owned. I am the third owner of this car and it has been reported to me that the car has never seen snow and rarely was driven in the rain. After inspection of the car, I believe these claims. This is one of the most solidTrans Ams I have ever seen.

This caris completely original except for a recent repaint (described in more detailbelow).

Car drivesas nice as it looks. I have put about 200 miles on the car since the repaintand it has performed flawlessly.

Interior

Original interioris in great condition with no dash or console cracks. Recaro seats functionperfectly and are also in great shape with no fading, rips or tears. All gauges function properly and light up with the correct red lighting that wasonly available on the Pace Car edition Trans Am. Carpet is in great shape withvery minor stains or discoloration. The red color of the seats and carpet isstill very deep red and shows no fading. Silver instrument panel is in great shapeshowing very minimal wear, typical of a car with only 58,000 miles.

Drivetrain

Original numbers-matching 301 Turbo engine runs great. The only work done to the engine includesElectric Spark Control bypass board from TTAPerformance, replacement of the water pump, timing chain and gears, ignition components, vacuum lines, and coolant hoses. Turbo worksgreat and builds boost. All three boost lights work and the engine producesboost to illuminate all three lights. Transmission works great and shiftsfirm, typical of this model of Trans Am. New driveshaft U-joints wereinstalled and flushes of the transmission and differential have been performed. Everything works as it should.

Suspension

Car handlesvery well, thanks to the WS6 handling package. Car drives down the road straightand smooth. The car has a few rattles, just as any second generation FBody car does, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Undercarriage

Frame rails, floor pans, and tail pan (between the gas tank and rear bumper) are all incrediblysolid. It is one of the best stock undercarriages I’ve seen. The car wasundercoated before purchase by the original owner with Thermo-Guard. You cansee this by the black undercoating in the pictures.

Body

When Ibought the car last year, the only thing it needed was paint. It was a very solidcar with no rust and no previous body work, but the paint was faded and therewere the typical scratches and parking lot dings. I had the car professionallypainted and new decals were installed. There was absolutely norust on the body. All body lines are within stock specs and fender flares fit nicelywith no gaps.

Answering a few questions here: The car does have the original carb (part no: 17081273). Also, I do have the door decals and the "Nascar" quarter panel decal but decided not to install them at this time. They will go with the car in case the buyer would like to install them. I have added a picture of them to the Flickr album linked in the description.
