Pontiac Star Chief was the sports muscle car in the late 1950's, a sleek yet bold 2 door coupe with a timeless jet age'd "fin" design this was one of the nicest GM cars you could own back in those days.
These Star chiefs are extremely rare and because of thin metals many of these classics have rusted out, been destroyed and have practically vanished. Rarely do you find such a solid example of an original car that has been well maintained, updated and restored over the many years.
In 1957 Pontiac offered the basic model "Chieftan", the mid-tier "Super Chief" and it's top of the line model was the "Star Chief"
MECHANICAL: Car starts up every-timewithout any issues whatsoever and drives very nicely. Motor has been REBUILT (15,000 miles ago) including new pistons, rings, gaskets. Also recent complete service and tune-up including spark plugs, coils, and rebuilt generator. Runs excellent.
Vehicle does not pull when driving and tracks very straight going down the road. Transmission shifts effortlessly as it should with no clunks or slips.
The engine has been REBUILT several years ago and does not smoke or misfire or give any hesitation when accelerating whatsoever. Brakes are good and car stops as it should. This car can be driven with confidence and has been thoroughly well maintained over the years in our collection.
BODY: Cosmetically this car looks impressive and very sharp and always gets major attention wherever it is, being driven or parked.
Car was painted several years ago and the paint looks very presentable, has a nice shine with a very few number of minor imperfections.
Virtually rust free (see photos of engine compartment) NO holes in the floor or in the trunk, car is extremely solid. Very little of the body has diminished and is in extremely good condition for it's age.
INTERIOR: The interior was professionally reupholstered ($5000) and very meticulous detail and time was poured into every inch of the interior when the car was restored.
New upholstery on the seats, NEW Carpeting, NEW Door sills, NEW Headliner, dash is perfect and steering wheel has been wrapped (see pics)
Seats are very comfortable and make driving this classic a pleasure to sit in and admire. All manual windows operate smooth mechanically, seat mechanics and all system mechanics are manual and all function as they should. No Issues.
EARLY 1957 MODELS ONLY were outfitted with embroidered "Stars" on the seats (see pics). These interior "stars" are an extremely rare option and add a distinctive authentic 1957 Pontiac feel to this already rare coupe. Later models dropped the stars in the seats altogether.
Dash, interior chrome, headliner, door panels and seats are all in excellent restored condition. (see pics)

BRIGHTWORK/CHROME: Chrome and Stainless on the car is 100% complete and stainless is in excellent shape. Bumpers are ORIGINAL and have started to show age including pitting and crazing (still looks good from just a few feet away)From 5 feet away the bumpers look excellent but closer inspection you'llfind the pitting and small dings from over the years. The chrome in my opinion is the only major flaw stopping this from being a true show car. Someone who would like to see this car taken to the next level could consider restoring the bumpers and tail-fin chrome housings to make this truly a completely restored car.
This car is not of show quality by judging authorities at shows, however for the everyday car collector or Pontiac enthusiast this is an excellent vehicle that has been kept in fabulous condition for its age. This isn't for somebody who wants a perfect car.
Anyone who appreciates a classic original Star Chief that has been restored will be pleased with this running and driving automobile. Star Chief's in this condition are becoming harder and harder to find.
Perfect restoration Star Chief's command $30-40-50-60K+ this if for somebody that does not want a perfect car, an affordable restored car that one can actually drive and enjoy.
