1981 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo Additional Info:

Up for sale is a 1981 Turbo Trans Am Garage Find car. This car was recently found tucked away in a garage since 1993, with only 6197 miles on the clock it was a true time capsule, stored covered and forgotten. This is a special-order car, equipped with the 4.9 Turbo V8, WS6, T-Top car with Deluxe black interior in vinyl, Manual windows and locks, and oddly enough this is a Bird Delete car, so no screaming chicken on the hood. Car comes with all original paperwork, window sticker, build sheet and dealer documents. Even the factory shop manual.

When found the first concern was is there anything living in it. Mice had only gotten under the hood and used the hood insulation to nest, (pics available). Their damage was contained to the engine bay with some surface rust on the radiator support and valve covers from mouse waste, no serious corrosion. This car is virtually in As-Found condition, in the case of the engine compartment, we did not want to start spraying paint on anything that should be handled carefully to maintain the originality of the car. If properly detailed/restored under the hood this car would a true show car.

As with any old car the fuel, or lack of, posed a big problem, the fuel tank, fuel pump, and carburetor all had to addressed. The fuel tank and pump were replaced with quality AC Delco components, the carb had to be rebuilt, due to gummed up old fuel. The ignition system was completely gone through, we decided it was best to remove all the plugs and the distributor to re-prime the motor with fresh oil prior to even seeing if it would rotate freely. The motor is literally still new inside, as viewed through a bore-scope. We installed all new AC Delco ignition components, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. She fired after only a few cranks and ran strong, but as heat built up it was the cooling system next to go. Both the 4-core radiator and the heater core had to be replaced. The heater core job was performed by a friend of mine experienced with GM restorations taking every bit of 20 hours to carefully remove and replace it. The radiator was sent out to be re-cored to maintain the original radiator in the car, another expensive step but worth it to maintain the originality. Finally road worthy, it was the brakes that gave us a small problem, the driver’s side rear caliper had to be replaced. With all that complete she was good to go for a ride, and while not the fastest car on the block she builds boost and lights up the hood lights while doing it. Everything down to the Dash Clock works on the car, the speakers sound shot but that’s probably just the foam on the speakers that has dried out. (AC does not work, didn’t have any R-12 to charge it) All original parts that were replaced have been saved and will be given to the new owner if they want them.

This car is sitting on original tires, they have flat spots from sitting almost flat for 24 years, but they are the original 1981 tires, they have full tread and hold air. The body and interior are amazing, super clean, no rust at all. The only surface rust underneath is on the lower control arms and rear housing, even the original exhaust and cat converter are in decent shape. This car has been washed and cleaned out, it has not had a professional detailing, it looks this good from a normal at home wash and wax. The seats were covered from the day it was bought new, even the package tray was covered in a black cardboard to avoid damage from the sun. This is a true collector’s piece with 1981 being the last year for an ALL Pontiac Engine. This is not something that can be found everyday and with the way the car has been optioned I venture to bet there are very few 1981 TA’s out there like this one with these super low miles. Please email me any questions. Car can be seen if local. Thanks for Looking.
