Hello and thanks for looking at my auction. What you are looking at is one of the most rare and desirable Trans Ams ever built. This is a true 1979 Pontiac Trans Am Special Edition with the W72 package, which equipped the car with a high compression Pontiac 400 engine, mated to a Super T-10 4 speed transmission.Car and Driver magazine from that year said about the W72 package that it "would not pass this way again"....as this was the very last year you could order the big, high performance Pontiac 400 engine. Pontiac only built 1107 of these cars, so this one is a very, very special vehicle.

First, the story......I bought this car in 2017 from the original owner. The original owner had bought the car in January of 1979 for $9531 at the young age of 19. He related to me that he was very meticulous with the care of the car, and only drove it in good weather. By the time 1986 came along, the car had accumulated only 43000 miles. The owner noticed that the engine had begun to smoke a little bit, so he pulled the car into his garage and pulled out the engine in anticipation of rebuilding it. Unfortunately, life got in the way, and the engine rebuild never happened. The car sat in his garage for 31 years, until I came along in 2017 and bought everything. I have literally every piece of paperwork for the car from the day it was purchased.....including the dealer invoice, fuel economy rating, dealer prep papers, owners manual, and even the ORIGINAL window sticker. Very rarely do you find a car of this age with all it's original paperwork. The car even has the old inspection sticker from 1986 still in the windshield! I put the car back together intothe beautiful time machine that you see now, and documented and photographed every step of the way so that the new owner has verification of everything that was done to this car. This car is new, and it has never been shown. YOU can be the firstone to reap the rewards of showing this car to the public!

The drivetrain......the Pontiac 400 is the original, numbers matching, PWH block. I had it bored .030 over and the originalcrank was done to .010 under. The bottom end was built with all new bearings and there was a BOPone piece rear main seal installed, along with a high volume Melling oil pump. It is topped by the original 6X-4 high compression heads, which were totally rebuilt with all new valves and springs. The original intake manifoldis crowned with a brand new Jet Performance QuadraJet carburetor. Everything was done to stock specs, including the camshaft profile. All of the fuel and vapor lines were replaced, as well as the fuel tank and sending unit. The Super T-10 four speed was in perfect condition and didn't need anything, but a new forged flywheel and new clutch were installed. The exhaust is factory original and correct from front to back, and even features an original AC Delco catalytic converter. The rear end houses the original 3:23 gearing and limited slip differential. The 4 wheel disc brakes are all brand new from the master cylinder, to the fluid lines, to the calipers. Even the emergency brake is new. The car is quiet and smooth and runs like a swiss watch.....but it has an abundance of torque, which makes it very easy to roast the tires, if desired.

The body.......this car had sat in a garage for over 31 years when I found it, so the body escaped the ravages of time that most old cars fall victim to. It was straight, solid, and rust free. There were a few small scratches and dings from the 43000 miles it did travel, so we went ahead and stripped the car down and applied all brand new, correct, Code 19Starlight Black paint. All the decals and pinstriping are brand new. All of the weatherstripping was replaced except for the t-top seals, which were perfect. The wheels were restored to perfect condition and new lug nuts and center caps were used. The glass is all original and the T-tops are in perfect condition. The original jack assembly, space saver spare tire, and air inflator are in the trunk, along with the original leather t-top bags. The body and paint on this car are truly a 10 out of 10 condition.....and I don't say that very often about any car.

The interior......the original Camel Tan interiors on these cars are absolutely beautiful, but they are notorious for being very susceptible to fading over the years due to exposure to the sun. Well, fortunately this car has spent the last 31 years in storage, so the sun didn't get to do the damage it normally causes. Believe it or not, those are the ORIGINAL seat covers! The dash has been untouched. Even the rear package tray is untouched and original. The only parts I changed on the interior was the door panels, carpet, and the headliner was starting to sag in a couple spots, so we replaced it. The air conditioning works and is currently being recharged. Even the original AM/FM radio is present, and it works through all 3 speakers. All of the gauges work perfectly, except for the tachometer which decided to quit working after I got the car done.....so I will be replacing that with a new one asap. Very rarely will you ever find an original interior like this one in such pristine condition.

All in all, what this car represents is the very end of the original musclecar era. It is a very rare and exceptional piece of automotive history, and is a very sought after car by true collectors who know what it is. I hope this car is purchased by someone who is familiar with it's legacy and who appreciates it's rarity and value. It is an exceptional example and is of a very high collector quality....and it will only continue to appreciate financially as the years go by. Please bid accordingly.
