1966 Pontiac Grand Prix Grande Parisienne Hardtop Additional Info:

OVERVIEW:This 1966 Pontiac Grande Parisienne 2-Door Hardtop Sport Coupe is a very nice and complete car which has been maintained in original condition, and remains unmolested and without modifications other than one repaint in its original color. It is an original Alberta car which has spent its whole life in our dry western climate. Odometer reads 86,376 original miles.

Built in Canada on GM’s B platform with a 119” wheelbase, and first introduced in 1966, the Grande Parisienne was the top-of-the-line model and distinguished from other Pontiacs by way of more luxurious interiors, distinct exterior and interior chrome accents, and extras as standard equipment. It was available as either 2-door or 4-door hardtop, paralleling Chevy’s Caprice, but using the styling of the US Grand Prix model.

This fully loaded Pontiac is quite solid, and runs, drives, and handles very well. Regular maintenance and routine mechanical work has been done to the car as required over the years, keeping the car in reliable and roadworthy condition. It has a maintenance log from day one through to 1980, at which time the car had 43K miles.Although complete ownership history is not known, we suspect the present family are possibly only its third owner since new.

This hardtop is a very presentable and useable car requiring nothing to be driven and enjoyed as is. It is a car that draws attention at show & shines due to it’s classy lines, roomy elegance, and nice condition. This listing provides many more details as you scroll thru. Near the end of this listing under Payment Terms you will find a link to a photo album of over 130 pics.

DRIVETRAIN:The original 283 ci. V8 engine starts right up and runs smooth. It sounds very good and strong, and does not smoke. All mechanical components on and around the engine appear correct, and function in good condition. The engine compartment is very complete and original looking, very clean and tidy.

Belts, hoses and radiator all appear in very good condition. The original GM glass reservoir bottle with cap is still located in its bracket.Original factory pencil markings visible on the firewall match the style number on the firewall data tag.

The Powerglide 2 speed automatic transmission shifts as it should, and there is no unusual noise coming from the rear end.

CHASSIS:It is equipped with power steering and brakes.Front end steering components appear to be in good condition as steering is tight on the car and the power steering functions well. Receipts indicate an alignment done in 1986.The brake system is in good condition as well. Receipts indicate it received new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, shoes and seals in 1994 at which time it had 64K miles. The dual exhaust system appears somewhat recent and in good condition. The suspension is in good condition as the car rides very nice. There are no dents in the gas tank.Frame rails are straight and solid, no rust issues. The undercarriage basically shows the road grime of its years and miles.

The running tires are a matched set of Hankook Optima 724 P-215/75R14 radials in very good like new condition with excellent tread remaining. There is a non-matching full size spare and rim.

BODY & PAINT:The car has had only one exterior repaint since new, in its original white color. Although it retains a decent shine and is presentable, the paint job is of marginal quality, with evidence of simply poor prep in areas. As a result there are blemishes and dimples evident here and there.Paint on undersides of hood and trunk lid, and in door jambs, may be original, although some overspray got onto the underside door seals.

There is no evidence of any collision damage, fit and alignment of panels is good. For the most part body panels are straight. There are a couple of minor pings on the hood, and the front fenders and right rocker are slightly wavy. There is a small dent at the back end of the right quarter behind the badge, and a soft dent on the left quarter above the back end of the skirt.

All floor pans, bottoms of doors, inner and outer rocker panels, quarter panels, and the trunk pan are solid with no signs of rust out or repair. The bottoms of the doors and the lip of the trunk lid are clean and solid.

The only areas that appear to have rust issues are the lower sections of both front fenders ahead of the rockers. Visible swelling is indicative of body filler having been applied rather than proper metal replacement in those areas. Appears limited to those areas and should metal repair easily.

Given that many years have passed since the repaint, any other signs of rust or inferior repairs would have surfaced by now, but none are evident.A slight lumpiness where the left rocker joins the rear quarter, right below the rear of the left door, appears to be more a case of a factory leaded seam not having been fully filed out, rather than filler over rust, not uncommon.

Overall it would appear that this was a fairly clean, straight and relatively solid car prior to the repaint, with only minor repairs required.Repairing the lower front fenders, doing the minor body work, and applying a better paint job would step this car up many notches, and give you a ride to be very proud of.

INTERIOR:The seat belt equipped red vinyl interior of the car is in super nice original condition. The front bucket and back seat covers are still very good with no rips or tears, but there are some re-enforcement stitches between some of the pleats on the driver seat bottom cushion. That appears to be the only flaw in the interior, although one button on the rear back rest is missing its cover. Perhaps it can be found under the seat.

It’s about as nice an original as you could hope to find on a car of this age and mileage. Sitting in it has a luxurious, well-appointed, and comfortable feel to it.

There are no cracks in the dash pad, one minor one in the steering wheel, they are really nice. As is everything else in this interior, including the kick panels and wind lacing, door and rear side panels, arm rests, and bucket seat backs, all in great original condition.Very nice instrument panel and center console. The wood grain finish on the instrument surround, horn ring, and console is in very good condition.

The original headliner is very nice, not ripped or stained. Same for the padded sun visors and rear package shelf.Carpeting is also in good original condition apart from being soiled and needing only a good a shampoo.

Weather-strips and seals are originals, mostly still serviceable. All glass on the car including the shaded windshield is good. The rear window has been resealed or replaced, judging by some dints in the stainless surround.Judging by the great original condition of this interior, this car has not spent much time exposed to the elements and has likely been garaged for most of its life.

ELECTRICAL:The wiring on the car is original in very good condition. All electrical components are operational, except for the clock, and all lights work. The gauges are all in nice condition, and the original AM radio has a rear speaker with toggle control below the dash pad. This car also came equipped with parking brake warning signal, interior courtesy lights, and backup lamps. All lenses are in good condition except for a crack in the right front park light.

BRIGHTWORK:The bumpers and chrome on the car are all in very nice condition. The bumpers are nice and straight with no damage, rust, or peeling chrome. All pot metal on the car is in nice original condition, including grille and headlamp surrounds, scripts and emblems. However, the ‘Grande’ script on the left front fender is missing the ‘e’.

The stainless trim on the car is complete, and overall in good condition. The rear window exterior molding has some dings from having been removed at some point.Grande Parisiennes came with extra bright trim and custom moldings, which included dual door mirrors, door edge guards, front wheelhouse accents, and fender skirts. The car sports nice correct original wheel covers with spinner caps.

SUMMARY:Original documentation with the car includes the Owner’s Guide, and Owner Protection Plan booklet with additional notes showing service and maintenance performed from new up to 1980, along with receipts for later servicing.
