1970 Pontiac GTO Additional Info:

I am going to forewarn anyone who reads this that my skills do not reside in the written word. In other words I am terrible at writing ads. I believe in complete honesty when it comes to my cars.

Up for sale is a 1970 GTO Ram Air III / Automatic without the Judge package. This is a factory Black on Black car.

Car is PHS documented with the following:

Exterior color Starlight Black

Interior color Black code 268 (Bench seat option)

Ram Air III engine

M40 Automatic

Power Steering

Power Brakes

HD 3:90 Safety Track rear

8-Track player (original 1970 GTO unit. was told it works but did not have an 8-track tape to test it)

Others are on PHS (included picture)

This car has undergone a 3 year frame off restoration. Body and Frame were completely disassembled, stripped, media blasted or chemically stripped to ensure best finish. Body and framewere Epoxy sealed before any work was done. Both rear quarters were replaced as well as repair to outer wheel housings (inner structure was also media blasted, epoxied and painted). The rest of the body is original including hood scoop inserts. I have attempted to restore this car with as many correct parts as possible. This is not a numbers matching vehicle but is about as close as you can get. Some of the important items are: (This car was built 3rd week of June 1970)

(Picture of cowl tag was taken before restoration)

Block: 9799914 4 bolt YZ, date code: D130 (April 13 1970)

Heads: 12, date code:D220 (matching) (April 22 1970)

Distributor: 1112009 date code I think is late 69 (forgot to write it down when I could actually read it)

Carb: 7040270, date code: 0570 (carb was rebuilt for show, appropriate parts all replated etc.) (May 1970)

Rear axle XK, date code H269 (August 1969)

Original upper and lower ram air pans but replaced flapper doors

Alternator (forgot to write down numbers but it is original to a 1970 GTO)

AM radio works (front speaker is a dual speaker factory type replacement from Ames)

Rally gauges and tach are original to car.

Rally wheels are all JT wheels (2- 1970 and 2- 1971 I believe) with OEM bezels and NOS red inserts OEM trim rings

Body bushings, U-joints, Ball Joints, Bearings etc have all been replaced.

Engine, Heads, Transmission, and rear axle have all been completely rebuilt.

All brake, fuel lines, fuel tank master cylinder, brake booster, Calipers, rotors and drums have been replaced with correctreproduction parts.

The engine and front light wiring harnesses are brand new through Ames Perf.

Car looks exceptional in person, runs and drives very good but the carb and timing have not been set. The vehicle drives very good but has not had an alignment done. I live kind of in the middle of nowhere and do not have an alignment shop or mechanics I trust to tune this type of vehicle.

I can go on and on but this is an exceptional investment vehicle or show vehicle.

I believe this to be a one of one factory optioned vehicle due to the following:

I spent the last 4 years researching this vehicle's rarity and According to researchthis is what I learned:

Pontiac built just 413 v1970 GTO'swith the RAM AIR III Automatic drivetrain without the Judge package. If you extrapolate out the buying pattern for 1970 GTO's there would be a possible 14 of these cars in Black as only 1515 of the over 40000 GTOs built in 1970 left the factories in Black. (3.7%)

According to feedback I received from both collectors and the individuals at PHS you may have seen 1 in maybe 10 or more of the GTOs leaving the factory with a bench seat interior.

I have been on as many forums as I could asking about another GTO matching this one's build and no one has seen, heard of or had one. I also asked as many collectors around the country as I could and asked the individuals at PHS if they remembered seeing one like this.

I know that does not make this a million dollar car but if you want a muscle car that no one else can have this is the car for you.

Like I said I know my skills do not include the written word but I will answer any questions put to me so please ask. I have many pictures of the car during the build so I will include them on a thumb drive to any potential buyer.

I have been building / restoring cars for almost 40 years so I do have some experience in what I am doing.

This car has been built as close to original as I could get, the only item I could not match exactly was the Transmission, the car has a PY transmission but includes a PD NOS tag to stamp and attach for correct appearance. I researched the transmissions and learned the only difference between the PY and PD was the stall converter, the PY having I believe an 1800 RPM stall and the PD having a (its been 3 years so sorry) 2200 or 2100 stall, whichever it was I matched it at the time. All mechanical rebuilds done were done by professional shops all having 20+ yrs of experience in their fields.

Some of the interior is original, I had planned to do the dash, seats and interior panels last but I have 5 GTO's and a Barracuda under construction at the same time and could not afford to refinish these, The originals look very good but would need to be restored to match the rest of the build. The headliner, sun visors, carpet, insulation, and package tray are all new reproduction pieces . The dash looks good but has a cap on it.

Two options I have not addressed are the floor mats (I did not purchase these) and the underhood lamp. (I have original lamp but can not find the little mounting plate or the button.)

Everything on this car works, from the door buzzer to the back up lights and license plate light.

This car is an exceptional car and much better than I probably make it sound. I had not planned on selling this but life sometimes has other ideas. Just for info I also have a 1970 GTO Convertible, complete numbers matching factory 4-speed with PS, PB, AC, hood tach and 3:23 safety track, rally wheels and WL Wide Ovals. Also an extreme custom 1970 GTO coupe, 1968 RAM AIR I 4-speed in spring mist green and a nicely optioned base 68. I do complete restorations as well as extreme custom builds. If anyone has any questions feel free to call me at 218 414 0280, my name is John.

Thank you for reading this whole wandering thing,
