Texas Classic Cars Of Dallas is proud to showcase this rar, and getting rarer every year, 1965 Amphicar Convertible .Thisvery original 1965 Amphicar with only 146 miles! It has been collector kept nearly all its life being utilized only sparingly! Today, it remains rust free and ready to enjoy! A great piece for any collection or museum! It was a meticulous 4 year restoration. No water leaks whatsoever. The engine rebuild included ( polished crankshaft, valves, rings, gaskets, ect.), transmission with new seals & gaskets, new brake lines and a master cylinder. All U joints, seals and wheel bearings replaced. Also included new propeller shafts and propellers in undamaged housing tunnels, which are rare to fin, and a new convertible top.
In 1962, an American auto manufacture joined up with a German manufacture to produce the first factory built, public dual-purpose vehicle for land and water use.The company was Amphicar and the Model 770 was born. It was a street legal convertible, and a water ready boat all in one!Manufactured in small quantities each year from 1961 through 1965, only 3,878 were said to have been when manufacturing stopped.Late production examples were titled in the year they were first sold & registered, so finding 1966-1968 examples can be common. All of which are now extremely rare and highly prized collectibles!
We are excited to offer this largely original 1965 Amphicar Model 770 finished in Aqua with White/Aqua interior and brand new white convertible top. Options include the original, number’s matching Triumph 1147cc OHV 4 cylinder engin, 4-speed fully synchromesh manual transmission, heater with defrost, polished wheel covers,185/80-13” BF Goodrich whitewall tires, and dual rear propellers! This example comes with only 146 miles and has been beautifully maintained.
Notice the ridge along the body lower edge. This was a factory made ridge that gave the car a little more stability in the water. If you look closely at some restorations you won't see this . That's do to the fact that most of these Amphicars rusted along the bottom edge and when restored this was very difficult to recreated. This is an original body that is in excellent condition.
There were approximately 3000 Amphicars produced in Germany in the 1960s, and it is believed there are only about 500 still remaining worldwide.
