1955 Messerschmitt KR200 Kabinroller

The Kabinroller is a production vehicle, manufactured in Germany between 1950 and 1960 by Messerschmitt. During that time approximately 40,000 units were produced, but only about 500 were specifically manufactured for export to the United States. This is one of the rare export models, easily distinguished by a two tone paint scheme and trim unique to the export vehicles. This particular specimen was originally titled as a 1958 model in the state of New York. The VIN (208826454371) was assigned by that state, adding the prefix numbers 2088264 to the original serial number 54371 shown on the vehicle data plate and engine.

The vehicle has been completely restored with every component renewed, repaired or replaced over a period of three decades. Recently completed, the Messerschmitt is in superb concours d’ elegance condition with no mechanical, electrical or major aesthetic issues. The interior of the cabin has been restored in original materials, specifically incorporating a unique vinyl and snakeskin theme. The exterior paint, body, interior and drive train components are impeccable and flawless. The engine has undergone a complete rebuild, and every detail of the car meets or exceeds factory specifications. The quality of workmanship in this restoration is unequalled anywhere and this may be the best specimen of its kind on the planet.

The sheet metal bodywork and finish on this Messerschmitt KR200 is exceptional. The original nose and tail sections have been faithfully restored with new sheet metal side panels, floor pans and bulkheads. All sheet metal repairs have been made in a professional and workmanlike manner. Single stage urethane paint, topped by three coats of clear, yielded a finish with exceptional brilliance and gloss. The two tone paint scheme in red and white is finished in original Messerschmitt colors. There are no ripples, dimples or fisheyes in the mirror like finish. The chrome, stainless steel and aluminum brightwork on this vehicle is in excellent like new condition, each piece of trim molding carefully straightened and highly polished to a brilliant sheen. Likewise, interior moldings, mirrors and bezels are flawless.

This vehicle has a new safety glass windshield and the factory blue tinted Perplex bubble top of the cabin is new and free of any defects, pitting, scratches, bubbling or cracks. Window channels are straight and true, sliding side windows work properly, and all glazing presents in excellent condition. The cabin hatch seals, rear engine compartment seals, belts and hoses are new.

This Messerschmitt KR200 is powered by single cylinder 191cc gasoline engine with fuel injection, rated at 10 horsepower. This engine has less than one hour of run time on a complete rebuild, performed by an expert engine rebuilder in the Netherlands. It has been upgraded with new electronic ignition, and hardened components for unleaded gas. It starts and runs without any problems. The engine is coupled to a four speed manual transmission that shifts smoothly and does not slip or drip any fluids. It was completely reconditioned at the same time the engine was rebuilt with less than one hour of service.

The Messerschmitt KR200 is built with aircraft technology incorporating a tubular design rather than a typical automotive frame and body. All drive components are mounted to the tubular structure. Bearings, bushings, rod ends, and couplings are new, and the vehicle steers easily and quickly with no play in the steering wheel. This cabin scooter has manual, cable actuated, drum brakes which have new brake shoes. The all wheel braking system has been completely renewed and adjusted and is deemed safe and adequate for a vehicle of this type. It has new tires mounted on factory 8 inch wheels fitted with chrome wheel covers which are in excellent, like new, condition.

The cabin interior has been completely restored with tan vinyl and snakeskin trim and polished wood. The Messerschmitt is configured with aircraft style fore and aft seating for two persons with the front seat adjustable and movable for ease of entry. There are no defects in the recently refurbished interior. The simple factory dashboard contains only a speedometer and clock in addition to the light and wiper switches and ignition lock. All of the switches, gauges, and lights are in perfect working order, and the wiring throughout the car is new. The steering wheel is of a handlebar design with a center horn button. The clock has been rebuilt and features a new quartz movement.

The actual kilometer reading on the odometer is 3155 (approximately 1960 miles). All components are free of any wear or deterioration. This small vehicle does not have modern convenience options like a radio, cruise control, or air conditioning. It does have a functional heater, turn signals, clock and horn. The optional luggage rack and radio were not installed on this vehicle.
