1960 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight Super 88 Additional Info:

For Sale:

An all original 1960 Olds Super 88.

Legend has it that Elvis may have walked by this car at one point. When the Cuban government saw the clean lines, and breathtaking performance of this great car back in 1960, they stopped importing American cars because they knew this was the last car they would ever want or need. This car is equipped with the 394 Rocket V8 engine; an engine that came to be when Oldsmobile was working with NASA to develop a new rocket engine for the space program. NASA deemed it too powerful to put into space, so Oldsmobile put it into the Super 88. These are facts that can't be argued and reasons you need this car.

I bought this car four years ago. I used it as a daily driver during summer months (May-October). While I love this car, I must part with it because I've since moved to Philadelphia where the streets are literally too small for this bad boy. It was garage stored the entire time I owned it, as well as the six years prior by the previous owner.

I’ve done some minor work to the car (torque converter seal and transmission filter, NOS steering gearbox, new battery, NOS voltage regulator), but overall it is mechanically sound. The engine leaks a little oil, but it always starts right up and idles smoothly. It runs and drives well, and it's right at home blasting down the interstate at 75mph, or cruising down the Prado on a Saturday night in Havana. All of the gauges and electronics (turn signals, generator, radio, headlights/taillights, wipers, and interior/dash lights, etc.) are in working order. All of the exterior chrome trim is intact. The chassis is solid with no rust.

The front fenders, rear window overhang, and rear bumper have some rust and the chrome has some pitting, but none of this is major. The paint has corrosion spots and some scrapes and gouges, again, but nothing out of the ordinary for a 56 year old car that's never been repainted. The passenger rear window is off of its track and won’t roll down, and the driver’s armrest is not installed, but will be included with the sale.

This is a solid, completely intact car that you could get in and drive tomorrow without any problems, or with a little work, restore to showroom condition.

The interior needs to be redone; I was ready to restore it, which is why the chrome trim isn’t installed. The complete interior trim will be included with the sale, along with many other parts.

Other parts list (see photos):

Glass washer fluid bottle

Extra radio

Horns

Complete interior trim

(Chrome pillar/headliner trim, rocker panels, headliner rails)

Glove box

Driver side armrest

Sun visors

Headlight bezels

Headlights/headlight assemblies

Misc. Dash bulbs

Heater ductwork

Wire wheel set

Carb rebuild kit

Passenger side turn signal lamp

It has a clean Illinois title that will be transferred when full payment has been received. The car is also listed for sale locally, so it may be sold at any point before the end of the auction, and the Cuban government has also expressed interest in this car (see above). I can only keep them at bay for so long, so make sure you bid early and often to make this legendary car yours.

May this car bring you as much happiness as it has brought me,

Nick
