Before and immediately following WW II, Oldsmobile may have had a reputation for building sturdy and very well engineered, if not exciting cars, but that changed with the release of the new Futuramic models for 1948. Featuring modern, Harley Earl-directed styling and clear design cues from Lockheeds sleek P-38 Lightning fighter plane of wartime fame, the low-slung new Oldsmobiles rode on a new X-member frame and four-wheel coil-spring suspension providing impressive ride and handling for the era. For 1949 through 1951, Oldsmobile dominated NASCAR competition with its all-new Rocket OHV V-8 engine and its Rocket V-8 road models delivered impressive power and speed. GMs Hydra-Matic automatic transmission was improved and made standard equipment on the top-of-the-line 98 models by 1949. Oldsmobile sales grew rapidly as a direct result of these welcome developments and record sales resulted by 1950.
Formerly part of the well-known Cars of Dreams Collection of John Staluppi, this highly attractive 1950 Oldsmobile 98 Club Sedan features sleek fastback styling, the renowned 303 CI OHV Rocket V-8 engine and Oldsmobile-developed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Colors are attractive, complemented by good brightwork and painted steel wheels mounting trim rings, bright hubcaps and period style whitewall tires. The engine and underhood area are very nicely detailed, presented and complete with proper factory components, colors and emblems. Other highlights include a pushbutton AM radio, dual rear view mirrors and driving lamps. Included with the sale of this top-of-the-line 1950 Oldsmobile 98 Club Sedan are the original order form, numerous pieces of 1950s Oldsmobile literature and a shop manual. As offered, it stands as a wonderful example of one of the most important American cars of the postwar era. See it today and be sure to contact us for full details and viewing arrangements!
