Here we have a VERY RARE one owner all original 1965 Oldsmobile Starfire Convertible with 130559 miles. This car is equipped with the 425 motor with 375HP and the 3 speed Turbo Hydra matic transmission. The car is in good condition for the age. It’s a rust free car. The pans have never been replaced and are very solid. Runs and looks good. This is an unrestored car. The engine and transmission were recently removed and a new engine gasket was installed. The transmission was removed and new seals and gaskets were installed. This Starfire does not leak any fluids. All the fluids were replaced with all new fluids. If you know classic cars, you know this is an extremely rare car. Only 2236 of1965 Oldsmobile Starfire Convertibles were produced. This is #770. Smallest production classic car GM made. Making the car very RARE. This car has some nice factory options. Which all work. Such as power windows, power seat, power brakes, power steering, power top, power antenna, push button trunk release, electric wipers, wonderbar radio, etc. The body of car is in good condition except there is a dent on the drivers side quarter panel due to a parking lot side swipe that occurred 15 years ago. The glass is all good, even the convertible top glass. The interior is in fair condition. The drivers seat needs recovered but the passenger and back seat could be cleaned up.
Here is the history of these cars...1965 convertible was the last of the Starfire Convertible.
While the nameplate returned in the 80s as a sub-compact, the Starfire legend was a distant memory and was applied willy-nilly to cars with none of the excitement of the original Starfire. The same fate befell GM cars such as Pontiacs GTO and Grand Prix and Buicks Skylark and Riviera. Thus the 1965 Starfire is a truly magnificent end to a Golden GM era and is becoming increasingly collectible. For the 1965 model year, the Starfire received elegant new styling that replaced the gaudy trim adorning the early Starfires with a bold lower trim line that terminated in the coolest feature of all... dual exhausts that exited through the sides!
A new version of the Rocket V8 engine was offered for the 1965 model year, this one measuring 425 cu in (7.0 l) displacement, still using a Rochester 4-barrel carburetor, and generating 375 hp (280 kW) at 4800 rpm. This was still the most powerful engine in the Oldsmobile lineup and used only in the Starfire and the Jetstar I. Also new for 1965 was the three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission which replaced the previous fluid-coupling Hydra-Matic used by Oldsmobile since 1940.
This 425 cu in powerplant turned the 1965 Starfire into a true full-sized muscle car, rivalling the 396/325hp Chevy Impala and 390/300hp Ford Galaxie with even more horsepower: 375 horses. As an interesting point of fact, the actual definition of muscle car is a full-size car with a large displacement, high horsepower engine. (Cars like the GTO and 442 were intermediates, and Camaros and Mustangs were ponycars.) Thus, this Starfire is a true muscle car, albeit one with all the luxury and power options that GM was famous for.
1965 sales were only 2,236 for the convertible, making the 1965 Oldsmobile Starfire the rarest production car in General Motors history... adding significantly to itsCollectibility.Wow.
