REASONABLE RESERVE!!

For your consideration from San Clemente California, is this BEAUTIFUL MGB, best described as a true “Keeper”. The closer you look at this car, the more you may well decide that this could be the one for you. Bottom line, just get in, turn on the key, and take off down the road. This could be the one that you've been waiting for!

WELL SORTED OUT

The British have a saying in The Mother Country that a classic car either has, or hasn't been “Well Sorted Out.” What does this mean? Experienced enthusiasts know, that in addition to having an automobile with respectable cosmetics, a “sorted” automobile is the optimum car to own. Normally, this doesn't happen overnight. Rather, unless a buyer is extremely lucky, the car will be purchased, driven for a while, some things fixed, taken for a little longer trip, more things attended to and so on, building confidence. Eventually the dedicated enthusiast will look forward to planning vacations and much longer trips, knowing that their “well sorted” little gem is unlikely to develop serious problems along the way. Of course, it never hurts to go on trips with your MG club!

I have driven and enjoyed this fine automobile, and I can tell you one thing. Whoever owned and/or cared for this 1976 MGB knew what they were doing. They knew how to “sort out” an automobile, and did so with this one. When you fire the car up, it runs and hums like a top. First rate stuff going on here.

In my opinion, to drive this classic is to love it. Frankly, it's what these cars are all about. The following are some mechanical highlights:

  • Excellent oil pressure – 75psi

  • Engine runs cool and strong

  • The clutch is solid, and the transmission smooth

  • Rack and pinion steering is precise

  • Suspension is tight

  • Handles the road and corners well

  • Brakes and emergency brake are excellent

  • Correct Zenith-Stromberg carburetor, excellent operating choke

WHAT WORKS?Among other things, All Smiths gauges, including gas, oil pressure, speedometer, tachometer, and heat gauges, correct dash Smiths clock, headlights, including high and low beams, tail lights, including brake lights and running lights, front running lights, FOG LIGHTS, turn signals, including tail light flashers, front running light flashers and dash flashers, passenger rear license plate lights, backup lights, dash emergency flasher switch and all related front and back exterior lights, dash flasher lights, interior courtesy light, map light, interior trunk light, windshield wipers, interior fan, horn, interior door openers and locks, glove box lock, exterior door openers, driver exterior door lock, trunk lock, interior window winders, interior side vent flanges, forward and back seat bottom adjustments, seat back adjustments, seat belts, raising and lowering seat back head supports and more. Even the cigarette lighter works!

I have had the compression checked by my mechanic and it is as follows:is Cylinder #1/160; Cylinder #2/153;Cylinder #3/154; and Cylinder #4/145.

The heating and the heated seats have not been tested. Currently the passenger door lock is not working.

The above is based on my personal observation, and is not a professional inspection or warranty, nor is it an exhaustive analysis of what is correct, or not correct for this year automobile. You can expect that some things may not work up to your mechanics standards, and that he/she will most likely find additional work that he would like to do.

COSMETICS

But the best is yet to come! When you get a chance, look down the sides of this MGB in some of the photographs that follow. In them you will see a car that is AS STRAIGHT AS AN ARROW. ALL shut lines, including doors, trunk and hood are as FROM THE FACTORY.

I can find no evidence of rust, including the FACTORY ORIGINAL FLOORS, which are in absolutely superb condition (see photographs below). The jack mounts are solid, the doglegs and wheelwells dry, and everywhere I've looked, the evidence is the same.

The previous owner wrote that this car has benefited from new paint in the factory original color in 2013, as well as the new leather interior at that time. Of course, it has always been garaged while in his possession. It was entered in the 2013 and 2014 classic car shows in San Clemente, California.

All chrome, rubber, insignias, lenses, side strips and more are in excellent to as-new condition. There is a chip with a smaller crack, approx. 2”, low down in the passenger side windshield, which does not obstruct vision. The air dam below the bumper is in good condition, but not perfect.

THE INTERIOR is without damage and, in my opinion, looks as good in person as it does in the photographs, including VERY COMFORTABLE LEATHER SEATS and that classic solid wood steering wheel!

The trunk, as you will see, has been carpeted, matching the rest of the interior, a very civilized thing to do! This car was purchased with no top, so you may want to have one installed if you plan on longer trips. I have located a CORRECT TOP FRAME, which is included.
