1958 MG MGA Additional Info:

You can tell that this 1958 MGA is a great car just from the photos, but the reason it looks so good under our lights is that it's been treated to a full-blown, no-expense spared, comprehensive frame-off restoration that catapults it squarely into near concourse-quality. In addition to be seeing such a great looker, it's an absolute joy to drive because absolutely everything has been sorted, and if you've been watching the market, you already know that these are appreciating by leaps and bounds. This is as nice as they come, and we'd dare to say that across the pond as well.

The pros at Automotive Specialties Co. in Dallas, Texas got a hold of a very solid and straight MGA, and then fully committed to a frame-off restoration resulting in this spectacular little car that now boasts a near museum quality finish. Excellent Orient Red paint captures the vintage feel of the original finish as applied in England, but since it's modern urethane coated almost as deep as the English Channel itself, it'll probably outlast us all. The MGA was revolutionary for the small automaker, finally incorporating fully integrated fenders while maintaining the sporty styling for which British 2-seaters are justly famous. Fit and finish are well beyond anything that MG was delivering back in the '50s, with tight gaps, doors that close easily without slamming, and that stunning paint paint job that makes you want to rub your fingers over a fender. This MGA is also nattily dressed with lots of chrome, from the instantly-recognizable MG grille to the raked windshield to the bright bumpers with bumperettes fore and aft. Taken in all together, the combination of exceptional paint and all that exquisite chrome makes this look like a far more expensive and exotic car.

The gorgeous Saddle Tan leather interior is a wonderful contrast to the Orient Red paint, a traditional look that seems especially well-suited to open two-seaters like this. Somehow, only the British seem to have mastered that wonderfully inviting look that makes you want to settle into the bucket seats and feel the soft leather hold you in place during a spirited drive on your favorite country road. Handsome black-faced Jaeger gauges are beautifully restored originals, as is the wood-rimmed, 3-spoke sporty steering that rests atop a telescopic column and feels great in the hands of the driver. The 4-speed shifter has a delightful mechanical feel that encourages you to wind it out in each gear to listen to the mechanical symphony going on around you. There's a heater that works great, seatbelts are provided, and the door panels and carpets are just as beautiful as the seats, showing zero wear. Honestly, this car looks like it's only been pushed around town by white-gloved butlers since it was restored. One glance in the carpeted trunk and you'll know nothing was overlooked when this car was restored, and in case of inclement weather, there's a neatly tailored tan convertible top that's easy to install and erect, along with side windows and a tonneau cover that matches the top.

The 1500 cc inline-four was a mainstay of MG sports cars for years and years, and with a fresh rebuild and the dual side-draft SU carbs perfectly balanced, it runs superbly. The cackling exhaust note is bigger than the engine's size would suggest it should be, but that's the delight of an MG: driving it quickly is an experience you'll savor without having to risk life and limb at insane speeds to do it. With proper MG Maroon paint on the engine and lots of raw aluminum details, it looks quite authentic. There's also a new master cylinder for the front disc brakes, which are effective given the car's weight and performance and a new components everywhere you look to ensure years of happy motoring. MG 60-spoke with Peg Drive Knock-off wheels are very flashy and in fantastic shape, and they're all wrapped in 165/15 Firestone F-560 blackwall radials that finish the elegant look.

Delightful to drive with great ownership support and a rapidly growing fanbase, this MGA is a great opportunity to sample vintage motoring and make a smart investment. Call today!
