1987 MG 6R4 Additional Info:

MG Metro 6R4 Clubman rally car. Condition is Used. I bought the rolling chassis from Cowley in March 1987 so it has only the 6R4 serial number and not a VIN, and subsequently bought other parts including dash, driveshafts, oil tank, sundry fittings etc to complete the car. I bought a spare gearbox from a friend that owned a 6R4 and had it checked by Nelson racing engines and at this time it was fitted with high ratio step gears to make it more suitable for road use which was the intended use. I bought an engine from Cowley and transported it to Nelson as he was the BL approved engine builder. If I remember correctly, it dyno'd at 278 bhp the second highest recorded for a Clubman engine. The bodywork was then stripped and the exterior painted red. I never refitted the wings as I prefered the appearance without them, but I do have then and they will go with the car. At about 1800 miles a cam belt failed and the engine was returned to Nelson engines for belts, latest ( at that time) guards and heads checked. At this time a cold start device was fitte, as was an engine driven power steering pump to replace the original prop shaft driven item. I drove it on the road some more, and it was lent to a friend who did one club event, otherwise it has only been used on the road as a weekend toy. The car was stored after 1990 as I was working abroad. In 2006 it, with other belongings was shipped to my new home in Oregon with a view to restore it for use again, unfortunately somewhere in transit other items in the container came loose and damaged the right side as seen in the pics. The door I think is an easy repair, and door box and front wing are readily available. At times over the last few years I have removed the calipers, exhaust, drive shafts and rear diff and disconnected the prop shaft in order to ease moving the car. With the exception of the calipers these have now been refitted to ensure everything is present. The calipers will be provided in a box. I have come to the conclusion that with ongoing health issues I do not have the time or energy to restore the car, so it is time for someone else to have the enjoyment.
This car has been standing since 1990 and so will need at the very least calipers and drive shafts rebuilding, new cam belts fitted and top end checked. Also paint redone with replacement parts fitted. As they say; see the pics.
The car was registered in the UK. It has never been registered in the US. I am told that, at least here in Oregon it is relatively easy to register a specially constructed vehicle.
