1954 Mercury Monterey HOT ROD CRUISER LEADSLED Additional Info:

As is the custom with, er, customs, there are innovations and touches you won't see elsewhere. Recognize that air cleaner? It's a gas tank from a Harley-Davidson. The taillights have been double-stacked and frenched. The dash, seen here behind a Nardi wheel, is handmade of mahogany and lends a taste of understated elegance to the proceedings; it is probably the most un-'50s touch here. (Even the little Ford 302 under the hood, though circa '78, has its roots going back to the 221 in early '60s Falcons.) The overall effect, thanks in large part to the cool green-and-white paint scheme, is one of restraint and taste despite that toothy chromed DeSoto grille. The quality of work belies the effort that went into dropping the greenhouse between five and seven inches to give his Merc just the look.
Mods: Roof chopped five inches (extends to seven inches in back), extended rear quarter-panels with '57 Merc Turnpike Cruiser skirts, frenched stock taillamps (two sets each side) and headlamps, spotlights, custom hoodscoop, shaved door handles, frenched power antenna, '55 Pontiac side trim, '53 DeSoto front bumper and grille, stainless side pipes
Paint: Deltron Candy Lime Green and White pearl, gold-leaf flames, hand-striped.
Mostly driven to shows and drive inns over the years. She has taken alot of trophies mostly Peoples Choice or Best in Show. Among awards Best Paint one year in the World of Wheels and featured in numerous Car Magazines including Hot Rod.
