1961 Mercury Comet Additional Info:

This is a very solid old Comet, there is some rust in the lower rear quarters and the right front lower fender, the rest is minor surface rust. The floors, rockers, trunk, front torque boxes are in extremely good condition. I have over $2500 just in parts alone, $600 in just the cylinder head alone. This is a very worthwhile project. I realize it's not a 1965 Mustang or another very highly sought after classic, but they are also a lot more rare! Having said that, I am having health issues and am unable to finish this project. I would really love to see someone finish this car.The body is super straight! The only filler I found on the whole car is in the passenger rear door, and it is very minimal. I found this car about 30 miles from our house under a lean type roof on the side of a barn, it had been parked there, out of the weather since 1979! The original owners manual was in a tin box in the glove compartment. I was amazed at the fact that there were no mice issues in the car and there is no chewed up wiring! There was several big trays of Decon mouse and rat pellets in the car when we started cleaning it, so I believe that answers that. It has 4 brand new tires with (0) miles. I removed the 144 c.i. engine and bought a 1969 Mustang 200 c.i. inline 6 cyl. The cylinder head was machined out to except 1.75" intake valves, that upgrade was a additional cost to rebuild the head, but I'm told it's well worth doing. It has all new springs, retainers, keepers, and all new valves. The only thing used was the head core and it was boiled out, magnafluxed, and pressure tested. I used all name brand parts in the engine, Hastings rings, Clevite bearings Melling oil pump, Felpro gaskets etc. The glass in this car is unbelievable, it's all the original FoMoCo glass with no clouding, scratches, wiper marks or anything. I also purchased new windshield and rear window rubber moldings. I'm the second owner. I have so much money in this project. I realize I will never recoup all my money and I am pricing it accordingly. We're just trying to get the money for the parts we bought and the engine machine work. I am 99% certain I have every piece for this car, it's all tagged and bagged and in totes, and was all placed in a climate controlled storage. I have a bunch more pics of the car and all the new and original parts that go with the car. I truly would not have spent all this money on a vehicle that wasn't worth restoring, this is really a great little car! *There were several other boxes of new parts I forgot to bring out of storage yesterday, I went and got them and they are now all shown and all are brand new. HEI distributor with super quality silicone plug wires, ignition switch and new bezel, idler arm and other Moog steering components* My intention was to turn the car into a 2 dr. I located some doors and rear quarter windows, and I talked to someone that converts all different types of cars and trucks, he said this car would be one of the easier ones. The picture of the 2 dr in the ad is what I had dreams of buildin, just with a 6 cylinder to get good fuel mileage. I'm 63, so my race car day's are a little behind me, I wanted to go for comfort and fuel economy. I had ordered a "Vintage Air" (where I used to work) kit for it but decided to cancel the order until I was a bit closer to completion. Please feel free to ask me any questions, I will answer them promptly and honestly. If you have no or poor bidding history I won't accept your bid. Thanks for checking out my ad and have a great day!
