When it comes to vintage automobiles, California and the West Coast of the United States have always been the most desirable the world over for many reasons; the mild climate and the fact that many automotive trends started in California. The automobile is the perfect technological symbol of American culture, a tangible expression of our quest to level space, time, and class and a reflection of our relentless mobility, social and otherwise. You see automobiles advertised the world over described as California cars because at some point they were in California or drove through California. A true California car is one that was sold new in California and titled in California, one that has the original plates that are on that title is a true California car.We are liquidating a collection of 300 actual California cars. This is a collection that took 70 years to comprise. Most have the original paint and original California licence plates issued to them when they were new.

Up for NO RESERVE auction is a beautiful 1968 Mercury Colony Park Wagon. The diamond blue paint is in great shape for being51 years old as well as the wood "yacht paneling".This Mercury was sold new at the former Joe Kerley Lincoln Mercury on Steven Creek Blvd in San Jose California in the heart of what is now Silicon Valley and has lived in Oakland, CA where it has been for the last 51 years. By 1979 the kids grew out of the house and the family wagon was relegated to the garage for the next 40 years. The Colony Park was Ford, Lincoln/Mercurys top of the line wagon, and it showed in period advertising: “If Lincoln Continental made a wagon, this would be it.” Priced at a healthy $3760, the Colony Park distinguished itself from the more pedestrian Commuter wagon with its plank-style woodgrained paneling. Mercury also distinguishedthe Colony Parkas a much smoother ride by replacing the rear leaf spring configuration with a coil spring live axle setup.VIN DECODE:76= Colony Park 4 doorX=390cid V8 2bbl71E= 4 door 6 PassengerN=Diamond BluePB=Dark and Light Blue Vinyl7=3.25:1 gear ratio53= Oakland DSO
Cosmetically this Mercury is in great shape for a 51 year old family wagon. The body is straight with no rust. The diamond blue paint is original and in fantastic shape The faux yacht paneling wood on these old wagons has a propensity to fade over time. This car is different the wood looks great and is a testament to how this car has been living indoors for the better part of its 51 years. All the chrome is in good shape with no pitting or rust. The rack on top is in great shape. None of the trim and emblems are missing and all are in good shape. The passenger front turn signal lens is smashed but functional, otherwise all of the lights are in good shape and in good working order. All of the glass is good with no cracks.
The interior of this Colony Park is in remarkable condition. Everything is original and in great shape. The front and rear vinyl seats have no tears and the blues are vibrant. The door panels are in great condition and have no wear or tear after 51 years. The dash has no cracks in it, the instrument panels all shine great and nothing is missing. All the interior lights are in good working order. The headliner is in great shape with no tears and no sagging. The carpet has no rips in it. The rear window goes up and down with no problem.
Mechanically this Mercury is in good shape. The big Marauder 390 starts up and runs great . Push the skinny pedal down and this family wagon will get you up to speed effortlessly. The transmission shifts smoothly in all gears and reverse. The brakes work like they should. The lights are all functional.
