1975 Mercury Capri Upgraded seats Additional Info:

If the buy it now is used I will include the 2.3 Turbo with 5 speed plusall the sets of wheels and all the spares I have accumulated for this project. Regular Auction bidding DOES NOT INCLUDE these extras.Winning Regular Auction bidder can negotiate for the extra parts. For this reason the reserve price for the car alone is a lot lower than the buy it now.
The reason I am selling my car is because we have purchased a piece of land to build our dream home, I will not have any place to store this car and all its parts for some time while we build. I would not like to leave it outdoors.
I am selling my 1975 Ford Capri (Mercury). This car had a california title when I purchased it and is titled as a 1975 Ford Capri.Being a California/New Mexico car it is rust free and all the panels seem to be originalto the car. Originally a bright green color it has been repainted Blue. Just to be clear the prep and painton this car was not done well. I am going to link a few youtubes showing exterior conditions more clearly,as photos do not show it well.
That being said it is still a good looking car, and runs, drives, handles, and stops very well.
I bought the car with the intention of doing a 2.3 turbo with five speed conversion and doingan X-pack body kit with an updated MKIII fiberglass hood. This kit would have taken care of90% of the body issues. This car was an excellent starting point as I could use it while I collectedparts and more importantly it is rust free.
I have had the car six years and have not used it much in the last three years. So I pulled it into the garageand went through all of the systems on the car to make it a reliable driver as I had noticed the rear axleouter seals were leaking into the brake drums and the drive shaft transmission output seal was leaking, prompting me to just go through the whole car.
One of my major concerns was it had a crappy radiator that would not support a turbo 2.3 or V8.(I had considered a V8 option.
The following parts appear to have been new or reconditioned on the vehicle when I got it:
  • Engine with 2000 miles on rebuild incl. performance camshaft (specs. unknown),canon intake manifold with a 38 dgas Weber carb., a stainless steel full length header.
  • New clutch kit.
  • Windshield and windshield rubber appear to be new.
  • Rear hatch glass rubber appear to be new.
  • Rack and Pinion steering rack.
  • Both lower control arms.
  • Rebuild brake calipers.
  • Front sport coil springs (blue).
  • Alternator upgraded to a modern Ford unit with built in voltage regulator.
  • New carpet kit (color dark blue).

The following upgrades were also on the vehicle prior to my purchase. ie Parts sourced from out of USA:
  • Genuine Recaro Seats.
  • 13x7 Aluminum Ford Rims (MkIII 2.8i).
  • Leather wrapped Ford 3 spoke Steering Wheel.
  • Full exhaust system (no Catalytic converter).

This is a list of the most recent work that I have done to take care of the issues tomake it a good reliable driver:
  • New rear wheel bearings and seals (was getting oil into the brake drums).
  • New rear wheel cylinders & new rear brake shoes.
  • Oil changed in differential to full synthetic.

  • Amber LED park lights (small) fitted into original holes left by bumper removal.
  • Repacked and adjusted the front wheel bearings (brake pads were 2/3 or better).
  • Fitted a basic heater connected to the original fan control switch (heater assy had been removed), California thing to make us envious of their good weather.
  • Fitted a brand new water pump.
  • New Alternator fan belt.
The following parts are not included in the auction unless the buy it now is used:
  • 2.3 Turbo Engine with 5 speed transmission removed from a 1986 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe with 155000 miles (car was running and driving when I purchased it.).
  • Ford 8.8 Rear Axle with 4 lug drums plus 3.08 gears and factory traction lock (limited slip differential).
  • Wiring harness plus computer from the Thunderbird.
  • 86 Thunderbird uses a cable type clutch mechanism but I also have the bell housing from the 87/88 Turbo Coupe that used hydraulics.
  • New Piston Rings plus full gasket set plus rod and main bearings (I was going to refresh the motor before I put it in the car even though it seemed to run well).
  • Five Mustang 10 hole rims with four factory caps (15x7)
  • 4 Mustang GT Turbine rims (15x7) I think I only have 2 caps for those.
  • 4 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe rims (16x7) sorry no caps.
  • 4 Light weight ROH Snyper rims (16x8).
  • All of the above rims will need refinishing before using them.
I had a few questions about driving the car, and although the car is 43 years old, I personally would not hesitate to take it on a long trip. It would be a very memorable adventure. But for obvious reasons I cannot guarantee it.
Here are two videos of car driving. The right rear trim cap was loose. Has since been tightened. No morerattle. The wheel caps were in the hatch section of the vehicle and got sun baked. The clear lacquer has yellowed.
