1987 Mercedes-Benz 300-Series Additional Info:

I bought this from a friend who is a professor. He put about 150k miles on it before me from what I understand. Oh, yes, she's got 355,000 miles on her, you better believe that. I just drove it to Chicago and back (~1000 miles) and have no doubts about the reliability of this vehicle. He took pretty good care of this and I bought it off of him because he did not want to fix the suspension.
When I bought it I deleted the failing auto leveling suspension and designed, fabricated, and installed the entirely custom air suspension setup. It is not as simple as a volkswagen - no you actually need to know how to weld and fabricate to do this. It consists of Slam Specialties 5" bags at each corner, with a SlamSpecialties manifold and a 3.5 gallon air tank filled by a Viair 380C. SMC fittings, check valve, and water trap (reliable in winter). It has gauge lines and gauges set up in the ashtray area, I never finished the faceplate for that, and one of the gauge lines for the front leaks so I am not running a front gauge right now. The air system is pretty dialed, and only maintenance I would do is to fix the leak at the gauge line and diagnose the intermittent tank leak (takes almost a week to leak down)
I also rebuilt the turbo 8000 miles ago and have receipts to prove it. I put a catch can on it to help with blowby and valve stem seal seepage. She burns oil and leaks oil, not sure which it does more of. Who cares, its got so many miles on it that it deserves to do that. In all seriousness I believe this to be caused by valve stem seal problems as the previous owner had the head serviced about 4-5 years ago and I don't think that they used mercedes seals (known to be a problem).
She also has a exhaust leak, right at a bend under the passenger floorboard.
This car comes with three sets of wheels: 18" OZ Opera's that need two tires (have two badly worn from a previous owner), a set of mercedes wheels with all seasons (what it is rolling on right now), and a set of mercedes bottlecaps with snow tires. If you want to buy it without the wheels, we can discuss.
This thing has been a great daily driver, even through the winter. It is pretty unstoppable in the snow - glow plug system and block heater work great, but I only needed the block heater once or twice this past winter. This thing loves long trips and will eat up miles.
