1993 Mercedes-Benz 400-Series W140 Additional Info:

1993 Mercedes-Benz 400-Series . Mechanically perfect, a collectible icon.“The title history of this car begins in Washington DC where it was in diplomatic service for about ten years. From there it was in Virginia and Florida, never seeing winter weather. As you can see from the (highest possible!) Autocheck score of 43, there are no issues. I did find a Sheraton hotel room card key in one of the compartments, indicating that it was in Livery Service for a time, probably in Florida. The car is an absolute dream to drive, with a very dominant feel on the road. No shakes, shimmies, noises, rattles, leaks, stumbles, etc. of any kind. How the car ended up in the Northeast I don't exactly know but it had a worn out ignition switch which was repaired recently. The engine compartment is clean and shows signs of recent service. The engine is clean with no oil leaks anywhere. This is a NO DEPOSIT auction sale, meaning payment is upon delivery. That means there is NO RISK to you the buyer because you get to test drive the car before payment.
Bruno Sacco the most famous Mercedes engineer in history, led his team to spend a billion dollars on this design. Cost was no object back in the 90's and no expense was spared in the construction of these cars. Its widely acknowledged that this generation of the S class (the W140) represents the most "perfect" sedan in modern history due to its extreme luxury, very long wheelbase, and M119 engine, also arguably the best made V-8 in history.
These cars are as recognizable as movie stars since they have starred in so many movies over the years due to the iconic shape. It's the ultimate businessman/russian gangster car. This particular one has aged quite well and has a few more decades of life left in it. The tires are very nice Hancooks with 90% tread. For those of you worried about repairs, literally every part imaginable is available on Ebay for very reasonable prices. The interior is spotlessly clean and the leather shows very little wear. The original Black Pearl Metallic paint looks quite good for its age with no scratches or dents. There is what you would call a normal patina on the car in general. Everything works on the car, down to the electric antenna. Its got a new serpentine belt, new (correct Bosch) plugs, and new (correct Bosch) wipers. There are NO LEAKS of any kind. There is no rust on the car, anywhere. The (Autocheck verified) odometer is at 235,000. The M119's do not suffer wear using synthetic oil, and its common to see Mercedes taxis in Germany with half a million miles. Winter starts are the real cause of ring wear, not miles. I am offering the car for sale no deposit since when you come to pick it up you get a test drive and the opportunity to walk away if for some reason you find something not to your liking. No deposit no risk.... The car comes with two sets of keys. A new ignition switch was just installed which is a common and very expensive problem to fix with these cars. The other typical issue is the AC, which has also been done. The crankcase has fresh clean oil in it so there is really nothing left to do in terms of maintenance. The original and stock AMG "Monoblock" wheels are the coolest looking ones out there. They have no scratches, dents, dings or curb rash on them. Brakes are about 75% of the pad and they operate flawlessly without any vibration or noise. Being a southern car, it has never been driven in the snow and salt. I have been an Ebay member for about 25 years and you can see I have all positive feedback. Any questions are welcome. There are too many cool things on the car to list here, part of the fun of owning one of these cars is getting to know all the exotic features. Among them are: vacuum-assist "soft-close" doors, and double-paned windows (!).Vermont does not title cars more than 25 years old, but one can be ordered at minimal cost if you need it.The original MSRP for these cars back in the 90's was between $86,000 and $120,000. I think its safe to say that the extreme depreciation that they suffered has finally ended and they can be considered a valid investment going forward. The pedigree of the W140 speaks for itself, as does the iconic appearance. You may notice that the car does not sport the Mercedes medallion as a hood ornament. One is in the parts inventory with the car, which includes a spare MAF, fuel filter, bulbs, etc. The location of the car is southern Vermont, off route #91, about 2.5 hours drive from the New York metropolitan area and Boston. I am happy to offer some flexibility concerning the delivery date.
