1978 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class,Clean,Low Miles, Euro Bumpers, Lights. Condition is Used.I have a video walk around of the car with the engine running I can email to you.
This is a rare car. It is a grey market German import which spent most of it's life in the palm desert in California out of the elements.
I am the third owner. It is a rare 6 cylinder version of the SLC apparently an option in 1978 by request from Mercedes if it was purchased in Germany and imported. An American 450 SLC should have a V-8. but this one has a factory installed 6-cylinder, original. This engine is very strong, gets better milage and is more reliable than it's V-8 counterpart. The interior lights and electric window and sunroof are working properly. I put an alpine stereo in with option for MP3 hook up on the back of the stereo (which I did not hook up). The second owner purchased the car in 1989 and kept it in a garage for his Sunday go to town car when he was in Palm Springs, his third home.
When I bought it it was mechanically sound and cosmetically near perfect in Southern California. I have a Mercedes mechanic so over the course of a year we replaced the bushings between the subframe and frame (drives very tight) . Master cylinder. Brake pads. U joint on drive shaft. New rubber door seals (quiet on the HW). Water pump.... And the entire A/C system has been replaced new compressor, new lines and a new larger condenser (we replaced everything but the evaporator) A/C needs a flush is all. Newer tires, and brand new belts. 78k miles on the car. The car is kept in a garage.
NO RUST! The only cosmetic things it needs are a replacement antenna (which I have but haven't installed), the driver's side door sill, and the left window louvers.
This car is a great looker and I have met a lot of people just stopping to get gas and driving around town... a good conversation starter.
This is a beautiful car and has been a dream to drive, but I am being transferred out of state for work and will have no place to store it .
