1985 Mercedes Benz 300 Turbo DieselAll Original! Straight Body and Clean Interior! No Reserve Auction!
Here is a clean and all original 1985 Mercedes Benz 300 Turbo Diesel. The car is all original and is a great candidate for restoration as the color combination is great and the foundation is so strong.100% complete and ready for a little or lot; you pick!If your looking for an as-is classic, I would guess you could do minimal work, change all fluids and start driving. However my thought would be for an enthusiast to pick this up for very little money and spend about $5,000-$6,000 for paint and mechanical work and have yourself an amazing classic. There are samples of this model in excellent condition that have sold for over $15,000! This is the last year of this model which adds to its value and desire. We are offering this vehicle on one of our no reserve auctions and we will sell to the high bidder. Please review the description and feel free to reach out for further information. I am open to ending the auction early if we can arrive at an agreeable price.
This exterior of this Benz is finished in Smoke Silver metallic paint. This vehicle has been parked outside for the past 4 years and it shows. The clear coat is peeled and the paint faded on all the panels. The glass, trim, and lights are all in good condition. From what I can see all the body panels are original and in remarkably good condition. The rubber insert on the rear bumper is missing. The body is straight and is free from any major or minor damage. The hood closes and lines up perfectly, however the interior release handle is difficult to operate and therefore I did not close the hood entirely for photos. I have ordered a new release handle and will send with the vehicle. Three of the factory wheels are finished in chrome and the 4th wheel is the standard alloy.
The interior is in good condition as well; finished in black MB Tex. The MB Tex is in excellent condition throughout with no rips or tears, the seats are strong and not bouncy like some of these old interiors. At the time of this posting I realized I do not have any pictures of the front seats beneath the sheepskin covers, but they are indeed in great condition. I can get some photos emailed to you upon request. The wood trim is all there and in great condition. All door panels and armrest are in great shape as well. The factory carpet is missing from the drivers footwell area. All other carpet is in good condition. The dashboard has 3 small cracks on the dashboard, reference the picture. The original books and VIN plate are in the glovebox. All power windows and sunroof work very well. The vacuumlocks are not working, but the cruise control is working well. All climate control functions are in great working order with air blowing from selected vents. The AC is not working although the compressor cycles on when selected but there is no cold air. The hood release is difficult to operate as the handle is loose, an easy fix I will try to rectify prior to shipping. Factory radio is present but not working.
Mechanically this Mercedes will need the most attention. The transmission is strong and shifts up and down as it should with the traditional first to second gear kick found in these old diesels, a vacuum adjustment may be in order. There is a compromise in the vacuum system as the car does not shut off, the manual shut down lever must be used in the engine compartment to shut down the engine. The engine itself is strong and starts the first time every time. There are some oil leaks with largest towards the front lower section of the engine. There is a knock in the engine that can be heard above the normal old diesel rumble; I have been told these old engines don't die and that a valve adjustment is in order to cure it. I have had many diesels in this era and agree that this engine is strong and can be revived. I have driven this car about 150 miles total and it runs at normal temperature with no issues. Although this car runs and drives decent, I would not recommenddriving too far before having the engine gone through and restored as it has sat for about4 years. The tires are all aged and in need of replacement, they hold air and can be used to move the car, but new tires are in order. The speedometer is working however the odometer is not working and I am estimating less than 5,000 miles driven since the odometer stopped working. The needed paint and engine overhaul will be where your money will be spent with the interior needing the least as it is actually in very good condition.
As mentioned above this vehicle is being sold in a NO RESERVE AUCTION. This means that the high bidder will be the new owner! Please be aware and bid accordingly and within your comfort level as you will be expected to consummate your purchase with full payment within 72 hours from auctions end.
