Collector Quality: what does this mean to most people? An interesting car, properly cared for, excellent condition, low miles, and 100% rust free… All the above? This 1974 Mercedes-Benz 240 D fits all of these criteria and then some. As a California registered car from new, chassis and body rust conditions are out of the equation. The paint appears to be all original with fading and clear coast peeling from the body side molding up. No major dents anywhere on the body (please note: there is a dent under the front bumper (see pics). The interior is superb. The 76,187 mileage total represents approximately 1,700 miles per year. We see cars with three and four times this mileage, meaning this car could have another century of use available. Driving impressions show precise road manners, proper Mercedes-Benz braking feel, with excellent Diesel acceleration, while giving around 50% better fuel economy than comparable V-8 Mercedes sedans.

Body chrome (bumpers, handles, trim etc) are in near new condition. This car has been well kept, as evidenced by the condition of weatherstripping, bumper rubber items, etc.

Stock matching hubcaps, with new Cooper tires really stand out visually.

Body gaps, paint condition and other details point to a careful long term ownership.

Under hood condition is also a site to see…., with all original decals and stickers present. A check over by our local Factory Trained Mercedes-Benz technician showed all systems are go, with full engine compression, proper diesel injector condition, and other maintenance parameters.

The interior is even better than the pictures. Proper care since new keeps an interior looking like new. Firm seats (minor tear), near new carpeting: it would be hard to find a major flaw in this interior. All gauges work, and indicate in their proper zones. Air conditioning blows cold, and the heating/defrost goes to maximum temperature.

Low miles for a 114 Chassis car.

Back seat area: virtually unused.
