1985 Mercedes-Benz 500-Series Additional Info:

1985 Mercedes 5000sel. This Mercedes is a grey market car and was ordered at the Emden, Germany branch. It started out as a 500sel. Approximate build date was November 1984.The vin number is WDB1260371A118466. This is a grey market car that was legally imported into the U.S. in the 1990's. It is fully loaded with all the bells and whistles. At some point it was sent to Gemballa for some custom work. The gauges were installed by them. Also they installed a full Amg body kit. The wheels are the rare pre-merger Monoblocks. Wheel size is 17x8 and the tire size is 235/45/17. Tires are newer Michelin zr rated. I bought the car from someone in Idaho. His father owned the car before him. In 2008 the car was stolen. When it was recovered some small parts like lights were gone. The insurance company totalled it out even though it just a few parts were missing. He bought the car back and replaced these parts. This is why it has a salvage title. There are no accidents on record. The paint is decent but there are some flaws. This is to be expected from a 34 year old car. A few dings and scratches. Clear coat on roof is bad. Overall a very rare car. It originally came with a hydraulic suspension system. Some leaks developed in the system. Consequently the car was sitting low in the back. I solved this situation by replacing the hydraulic shocks with regular springs and shocks. The shocks are new Bilsteins. The rear springs are H&R and the front springs are original Mercedes. The original shocks come with the car. It had been sitting for three years. I removed the gas tank and had it professionally cleaned. I also installed a new Bosch fuel pump, Bosch fuel accumulator, and new fuel filter. It runs and drives good now. All the electrics are working well. Both rear window regulators will need to be replaced. It has a great Alpine stereo system with a ten disc changer in the trunk. Speedometer is in Kilometers. It is reading at 131000 km which is approximately 81000 miles. Odometer is broken so the the approximate mileage now is 85000. As far as 126 body Mercedes go this is definitely a rare one.
