1968 Mercedes W113 280SL Roadster, Automatic & ZF 5-Speed, Two Tops

Up for auction is a 1968 Mercedes 280SL with both tops and a ZF 5S-20 5 Speed transmission which I purchased years ago as an investment. Looking at the current and past market price development this is a way to go but you alreay know that because you are looking at this auction. I recommend, don't buy an overpriced driver which needs everything soon and you have no clue what was done to the car. If you have the ability buy this one and build it from scratch with all new parts,
no compromise for many troublefree years to come with a huge appreciation in value.The car is still equiped with its original automatic transmission but this auction will include a super rare W113 5-Speed from the mid 60s with a matching drive shaft. I think there hasn't been one on Ebay in years. The increase in value due the transmission upgrade is significant.

About the car:
According to the data card is was delivered to Arizona painted dark gray (G172) with medium gray interior and carpet, light gray top and green glass. A very pretty car when done but now it is burgundy withtan interior. The car will need minimum a partial new floor and a rear panel. Original trunk and fenders can be saved if desired.I was not able to findevidence of an accident but partial rust repairs in the common places such as rear quarter panels, inner front fenders and floors. The car was partially disassembled by me to perform an inventory of all parts needed for a concours restotation but no repairs have been started as of yet. All parts removed are documented in pictures, bagged, labbeled and stored in totes. The car is still on its wheels with motor and transmission installed as well as front and rear axle. The car can be steered for loading. My intention was to build a complete new Pagoda no expense spared. So basically there is almost a new car in "MB" OEM sheet metalincluded in this auction as well as many, many other new MB and OEM parts.

The car has a clear PA title with an odometer reading of 60609 miles. I am trying to discribe to my best abilities about this car. I highly recommend to come to Yardley, PA to take a look because it is sold as is. There will be no returns, no refunds, no warranty and no trade in! This is a local pickup only. No shipping unless you make all arrangments! I'll assist the buyer. Also the 5 Speed will not be seperated from the car! The engine was replaced with a new 70 - 71 short block and a new
head a few years back and has a blank stamping pad. I have a matching 1968 head, fully rebuild with new valves which looks like new, also included in this auction. If you want a matching number engine you have to source a 1968 - 69 M130 engine block, all internals are interchangable except the cylinder head. The current engine is not running due to the stage of disassembly but turns free. The seats are fine as well as the third seat (Kinder sitz). The car and hard top have all chrome pieces, a set of 5correct wheels and hub caps as well as straight bumpers. Hood and soft top cover are matching #'s. In short I was able to come up with about 85+ % of the parts required for the restoration not including, chrome and platin, seat and carpet coverings, paint and soft top.

I think this will cover the important parts. The car also has a super nice original front grill with star, newly chromed surround and wings. I'll include a brand new Redline 3000Lb rotissery with the car as well. A must for a perfect restoration.

The transmission was opened due to the fact that I never ran it and being in storage for over 35 years. The work was performed by a professional who evaluated the transmission as found in excellent condition including all gears, cage bearings and synchros. I have new main and secondary shaft bearings as well as new NOSoil seals forshifter and rear main shaft for a rebuild included. Again, all parst are documented, labelled and stored. A ZF 5S-20 service/rebuild manual is also included.
