| You are looking at a survivor 1961 Mercedes 220SE 2 Door Coupe. It has been garage stored since 1985 when the bodywork and paint and interior was completed and has only had one owner since new. This Mercedes has been adult owned from a local elderly collector. This beauty needs to be reconditioned but has a ton of potential.
The bodywork and paint was fairly good, and the interior work looks outstanding. It appears to have most or all of the trim. We found very few marks and scratches in the finish, but did find some imperfections on the roof. We did not find any failure in the paint or rust bubbles in the finish. We did find two major rust holes under the car as noted and there may have been work done under the car years ago. We also did not bolt the rear bumper on but what appear to be brackets are in the trunk, along with the jack, the spare tire, the trim, and hardware.
Note the windshield and back window is missing. All other glass is good but the rear driver's side window doesn't like to go up and down. The windshield and rear window were removed for the cosmetic restoration and lost by the body shop. We believe they can be found on the internet but no guarantees.
Mechanically, the condition is unknown, but we did properly prep the engine with oil down the cylinders and did get it to turn over with a house battery. No battery is included with the sale. We do not know the condition of the fuel injection or any other engine, transmission or other mechanical component. The fuel tank and pump is included, but not shown. The air conditioner was added by Sears years ago and will also need tires.
The interior is simply outstanding and the material is in superb shape. We do smell evidence of mice in the trunk from years back. We do not believe there is any live mice at this time but cannot guarantee it. We did not find any holes in the leather or the headliner.
This in our opinion is one of the best years and body styles for Mercedes coupes and this one has all the right options and colors Given the year and model and the documentation and options, it is hard to find anything better than this to start with in this price range. What a great candidate for a full restoration.
