1986 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Additional Info:

25 yr owner of this vehicle with detailed notes from pride of ownership
I am the same owner for quite some time and I am an auto enthusiast, having sold my last car to a museum. This Mercedes 560sl has been one of my personal cars for the last few decades and I am sad to sell her, but our new house doesn'thave the extra space and I can't allow my beauty to sit outside - so it's time to sell.
I purchased this car with high miles (150,000) back in 1992 and I have only put on a few miles per years since I have owned.
I have never driven the car withoutreceiving compliments becausethe car is so well maintained, and I was a formerowner of a high-end auto detailingbusiness.
Mechanically- This car run better than it ever has a I recently went through the vehicle for every little update or repair including fuel distributor, trannysealand adjustments, driveshaft, various hoses, timing chain, rear main seal and much more. Tires and brakes are like new and the AC blows cold and was converted to modern type r134. Car starts cold, very smooth from start to high-end acceleration and shifts perfectly. Still has one small oil leak and this is the only item on my mechanical punch list. This car has never been in an accident and drive 100% straight. No rust or other major mechanicalissues.
Paint - about 20 years ago the car was scratched so the insurancecompany paid for a proper repaint using Sikkens paint. Since I was in the auto business the body shop made sure to do a great job of removing parts for a proper repaint. The paint is still a very nice deep glossgold with no significant dents or dings. Passenger side top fender has a touch-up spot where rock left tiny ding, trunk lid clear-coatis fading but still looks good, rear drivers quarterpanel had some touch-up from paint scratches and looks good - only mentioning for full disclosure.
Chrome Trim - Overall for a car this age the chrome is in excellentcondition. Bezels for headlights, license plate frame, bumpers, window trim, trunk chrome, interior chrome are all in really good condition. Small dents in chrome grill emblem and trim, a few small dents in bumper chrome. No chrome peeling, pitting or other problems.
Rubber - all around great no break or brittle. very small nicks in rubber bumper trim
Wheels - All four chrome wheels are clean with no road rashes, no peeling, no pitting or staining, but some inside chrome fading. Gold center stars need to be re-plated for that new look.
Convertible Top- Looks amazing and in a solid 8-9 condition, having always used plastic polish and placed convertible down with protective towel to avoid chafing.
Hardtop - Factory original and in good shape as it has dent and some small paint chips, the interior of hardtop has a few stains, and slight imperfections including a bulls eyebreak on glass very low side does not effect visibility. Electric cables, rubber, seals, and chrome are near perfect condition. In the entire time I have owned this car I have never had the hardtop on long-term, it was always in storage withthe exception of moving from house-to-house where it was installedtemporarilyto transport to new garage. The Hardtop also include the aluminum stand with wheels and a brand new hard-top hoist kit never used.
Interior - Completeleather and fabric replace and still in amazing condition see pictures. No cushion wear still strong as springs and seats rebuilt. Arm rest shows no signs of wear. Non smokercar. Dashboard pad had 3 small cracks (where they formon all of these older Sl's) so I covered with dash pad. I have also covered wood center dash and wood trim with Burlwood overlays whichlook really good see pic, Steering wheel grip is good but color has faded from black leather needs to be dyed, wrapped or replacedfor that new look. Sun Visors are original but the lighted mirrors don't work, and there aresmallcracks in visor vinyl in the corners. Sun visor retainingclips have been replaced and silicone in-placefor a sturdy visor as I don't like the visors falling down while I drive fast with convertible down. Stereo replaced years ago with JVC Bluetoothhead unit, 6x9 rear speakers and amplifier in trunk, and new antenna. The red plastic portion of seat belt clips need to be refinishedshowing sidesof cosmetic wear (see pic). Door panels in really nice condition with some colorfadeon top edge where sun hits. Rear vinyl covering convertiblestorage lid I was going to dye to match interior color a little better, easy fix and justsmall detail to get to higher quality).
Summary- I am a car enthusiast so I know die hard collectors wantlow mileage vehicles. For the car lover who wants an incredible daily driver that looks and runs fantastic right now, then this car is right for you. Just trying to find a solid car with no accidents is difficult and this 560sl is ready to drive and looks incredible for the price. The interior and convertible alone are worth $5k, plus all the mechanical updates puts my askingprice of $12,500 at a great deal in my opinion. Please no offer for trades, serious buyers only look at my feedback for yearsof positive experiences. I suggest you request an inspection by an independent professional if you cant be here locallyto inspect yourself. Whatever I can do as a seller for transparency and honesty will be accomplished, as I want my 560sl to be in good hands with someonethat appreciates.
