Completed at the Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen factory in November of 1988, this exceptional 560SL was delivered new into Ontario, Canada in January of 1989. Generously optioned and equipped with both a soft and hardtop, this 560SL was finished as it appears today, in the classy Diamond Blue metallic over a dove gray leather interior. The first and only owner cherished this summer-only driver for 28 years!

Today, this fine Mercedes-Benz presents in extraordinarily original condition throughout. With just under 86,000km from new (53k miles), the car appears to be just a few years old, with original finishes throughout and a comprehensive history file containing the original books, tools and spare key. We have every service record back to 1989. The service records also indicate a retrofit to R134A.When our shop at Porsche Centre Calgary inspected the car, the only thing we could find was a weak sun visor clip that we replaced at a cost of $367. The records indicate that this 560sl was dealer maintained its entire life without regard to cost.Overall this is an extremely original, high quality Mercedes-Benz ideally suited to open top touring, with nearly all the power amenities of a modern car, yet with the elegance and style of the classic Mercedes-Benz SL.

You can find 560SL’sfor much less money than this one - in fact many are almost free. But you can not make a bad car into a good car for any reasonable sum. These cars were the best cars that could be made at the time and among the most expensive, and if one wants to duplicate the original quality and finishing virtually all restoration work is prohibitively expensive. All knowledgeable experts will agree that prospective purchasers should buy the best car that they can afford. A 'cheap' Mercedes will most often wind up being a very expensive one. The $10k or $15k that you could save buying a lesser example would quickly evaporate with maintenance and reconditioning costs, and you would still be left with a rougher, less-valuable car.

It is hard to think of another classic Roadster better suited to pleasant open-air motoring than these R107 Mercedes-Benz. Their predecessor, the 'Pagoda' SL's are beautiful and charming but are busy at highway speeds with their high-revving 6 cylinder engines. The successor R129's feel very big by comparison. The R107 manages to combine classic style, stupendous build quality, excellent and affordable parts availability, effortless cruising and day-to-day usability that is unique.

They also have an upward value trajectory and there are many 6 figure auction results from the most desirable examples. Be ahead of the curve on this one, excellent examples of these cars will get rarer, and nice ones are sure to increase in value closer to their 'Pagoda' predecessors.
