1961 Mercedes-Benz 190-Series Diesel Sedan Additional Info:

Up for sale is a 1961 Mercedes 190D, affectionately known as the "Ponton". There's really not much I can say about this vehicle that isn't shown in the pictures below. I recently purchased this in September of last year with the intent to start a full restoration but, as is the case with so many vehicle projects, life has taken me in more pressing directions. The vehicle is not currently running and I haven't a clue as to what it will take. The things I do know (that may not be apparent in the pictures) are as follows:
- It needs a battery
- The rear passenger door seemingly doesn't shut and is being held "closed" with a bungee
- Tread is above average on all tires but the left front tire needs a new valve stem
- The car looks to have been repainted some time in its life and could stand to be done again. The pictures make the car look more blue than it is. Its more of a dull gray color.
- It's missing the driver's side windshield wiper
- Odometer currently reads "68201" and is assumed accurate but I can't be certain
- Undercarriage appears to be free from major rot but I haven't been able to get it on a lift to inspect it thoroughly (so there may be some areas that I have missed)
- Some trunk emblems appear to be missing
- When opening the hood it catches on the bumper and needs to be persuaded a little to clear it. Looks like it could be readjusted fairly easily to prevent this
- Have possession of all keys
- Clear Title
So, just to reiterate, this is just a partial list of the most obvious issues I know of with the vehicle and I am in no way guaranteeing it to be inclusive of all the potential problems the car may have. I'm selling the vehicle AS-IS with no returns accepted. It will, I'm sure, need extensive work for it to become road worthy and this is something I just do not have the time for anymore. Feel free to ask any questions you may have and I will try my best to answer them. The vehicle will need to be towed to the new owner through a shipping company of their choosing (these arrangements are the sole responsibility of the new owner but I can be present at the time of pick-up to assist the shipping company in loading the vehicle if necessary). Please take the time to look through the pictures below as they are the best representation of the vehicle I can provide. More pictures can be provided upon request. Lastly, bids on this vehicle will be limited to the continental U.S. and to those who have previous positive feedback on eBay. Thanks. Photo gallery
