Inspiration from the growing car culture of drifting, and the trend of 'LS' swaps are on full display in this third generation RX-7. The Fast and Furious clan would surely approve of this car. In fact there is a car that this car bears a striking resemblance to in the Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift movie. It may look a little suspect to the average person at first glance, but the modifications to this car are just what Toretto would've ordered. Radical widebody styling, custom wheels, functional interior, and a powerful engine under the hood are just a few highlights of this car. Placing an order for overnight parts from Japan is not necessary, as this RX-7 is ready to enjoy just the way it is.
Sure it looks very different from the way it left the factory but it's ready for the Touge in Japan, the track, or just cruising the streets. Originally finished in Vintage Red over a tan leather interior, the car is now wider and a little more radical in color. A full color change in Orange Pearl Metallic paint covers the widebody kit that has been blended to the body. The bumpers, side skirts, front and rear bumper lips have been molded to the rest of the car. Black pearl metallic accents have been added to the roof, doors, rear bumper, and hood. Scissor doors have been installed to give the car even more of a radical look, and 18" wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich tires follow the tuner look.
For those who are used to hearing the high revving "braap" sound from a Rotary, the deep growl that the engine in the car produces seems a bit out of place. The highlight of the car is the LS2 V8 mated to a 6-speed manual transmission that is under the hood. The professionally installed drivetrain setup is a perfect combination to help get the desired understeer for drifting the car around a course. The engine is said to produce approximately 425 horsepower to the rear wheels, while StopTech brakes provide a bit more stopping power than the factory units.
Inside the car is a tan interior, that for the most part has been left pretty close to how it left the factory. A JVC navigation/stereo unit has been added to the dashboard, and the large shift knob displaying a 6-speed shift pattern is the only giveaway inside the car that not all is stock under the hood.
This RX-7 is a car that is not only unique but ready for the track, touge, car shows, or cruising around town. You just don't see many RX-7's out there that have been treated to a full widebody kit and color change, an LS swap, and a 6-speed transmission. Those with knowledge of the drift scene, and how fun an LS powered RX-7 is should be taking a close look at this thing. You'll definitely make some new friends as the proud owner of a car like this...they may all work at the local tire shop but hey, this car will keep your adrenaline pumping.
