1982 Maserati Quattroporte Quattroporte Additional Info:

Here is my Maserati 1982 Quattroporte Series III I purchased several years ago with the sole intention to modify it they way I always wanted. I purchased this QP when the car had a number of serious problems. One by one I was able to understand the car and the engine which is pretty unique to most of anything else is out there. These cars are extremely temperamental they truly have a mind of their on. I know most cars do but this one in particular has had and I am sure more will surface in the future. i will not deny it, knowing the nature of these QPs it is almost impossible to think that they will drive worry free but when they do they are a ton of fun to drive more than many cars I have had The car was produced when Alejandro DeTomaso took over Maserati My suspicion was correct on the fact that the wheels from the Pantera fit exactly on this car and not just the bolt pattern but the hub centric is exact by putting both wheels from Pantera and QP are made by Campagnolo and they are all Magnesium The car assumes a different stance the rear wheels fill up almost to the millimeter the small gap that is in the rear wheel well The car sits wider and actually handles even better I wanted to give my qp a muscle car look to it I know a lot of purist might condemn me for it but I purchase the car in a moribund state so I took the shot Wider wheels was the first Maserati tried to compete with Mercedes Jaguar and BMW back in those days and they tried to use an engine with a racing soul into a luxurious car. In order to make this engine sound and run as it should I started to eliminate clear obstacles A/C compressor even when new would not cut it especially in California summer so out Smog pump a total waste of horse power out The car kept overheating in a very strange way It took me months before detecting the problem Thermostat was a total obstruction of fluid yes you cant use your heater but I could live with that. The second the thermostat was history the car never even came close to overheat After 73 all cars in the USA all cars needed to have the so called 5 mile x hour bumper with big shock absorbers bumpers commonly called "Ugly Bumpers" and since they were ugly then why keep them the car shows its beautiful lines without those big bulky and extremely heavy things, so lighter car faster car. Maserati used these big aluminum air cleaner housing the literally suffocated the air flow so I took that heavy cover and gave each carburetor their very own open air air cleaner housings and to go one step beyond I put those hood vents that literally scoop air right into them and the difference in performance is palpable You might think Alfieri is turning in his grave but I think Alejandro would give me the thumbs up The list goes on, the factory fuel pumps even though the car is equipped with 2 from the factory they are both stubborn so a stronger pump was put in the engine bay wall Although the tornado mirrors are on the pictures they were taken off since they had all sort of problems and they could never work right so a pair of chrome racing bullet non remote mirrors took their place. the rear of the car under to lid has been painted flat black I had a machine shop fabricate those 2 aluminum grilles on the side of the front one Side holes were filled with turn signal and marker lights
