1976 Lincoln Continental in Diamond Blue Metallic
This car hasn't been restored, nor has it been kept in immaculate shape, but it's a great car to hop in and drive, fix up, or restore if you're so inclined. With the strong and reliable 460ci V8 engine mated to a 3-speed C6 automatic transmission you'll be cruising along at 90mph before you even know it, floating along on the plush couch they called a front seat. Original AM/FM radio and speakers are working like great and are unmistakably 70's. Blue car, blue seats, blue carpet, blue headliner, white top. Brakes are good, tires have another year on them, hub caps and trim rings are present and original. Spare tire is a full size white wall to match the set on the car (different brand, same look). Odometer says 60,000 miles, but it's probably 160,000. Who knows.
The roof has a few spots where it's torn or gotten brittle, but it could be cleaned up as is and look pretty good. A high-pressure spray down at the car wash took out a lot of the dirt baked onto the vinyl and paint and I'm sure another round or two would do wonders for it. The paint is showing sun damage, but still cleans up nicely and could be polished to a shine. One spot on the front fender (top, next to the hood) would need to be touched up due to sun fade and surface rust, but no bubbling. The worst (pretty much all of) the rust is in two spots, the driver rear fender skirt, and along the bottom of the rear fenders. Minor spotting or surface rust in a couple of small spots around the car, but the underside looks great.
The car starts up with a couple of taps of the gas pedal and idles pretty much right away, ready to take off after 15 seconds or so. The electric choke was acting up (common on these carbs) and a manual choke was put in, but I never really have to use it. Maybe in the dead of winter. I have an electric choke thermostat to give to the new owner, and I might get bored and install it myself, if I have the time. Carb could use a cleaning, and the air intake hose is tattered so it's pulling in air from the engine bay instead of through the grill. Not a big deal, but worth the few bucks to fix, or wrap it in duct tape and go. Runs kinda rich right now and could use a tune-up. I've driven this hundreds of miles at a time every summer for the last few years, plus it's been a daily driver at times.
The electrical system needs some attention and a good cleaning and a couple of switches would solve most of the problems. Driver side front and back windows work just fine, passenger side rear is stuck, and front only goes down part way. All glass is good with no cracks. The power locks don't seem to be working (haven't checked fuses) and the power seat is intermittent. If you're my size (6'0, 320lbs) it's a little tight, but if you're a little smaller it should be more than comfortable where the seat is at. Probably just a loose connection or dirty control if you decide to fix it.
She's a beaut and a ton of fun to drive, just really no where to store it and work on it. Someone else should give it some attention and enjoy it. Reserve the right to end the auction early is it sells locally.
