Vehicle Information
As much as I don’t want to, I’ve decided to bite the bullet and put up for sale my classic 1989 Jeep YJ "Wrangler.” This is, I do believe, the most pristine 1989 Jeep you will ever come across, with only 62,947 original miles at the time of posting. That's not a typo. The powerhouse AMC 258 4.2L inline 6 motor is original and runs great, complete with the standard Nutter bypass to simplify and strengthen the engine, and upgraded brand-new Motorcraft 2150 carburetor and air cleaner.
It's been repainted in its factory-original Spinnaker Blue Metallic, and I think you'll agree, it's darn sharp.
* Note: If the buyer is able to transport it and if desired, the gray hard top that I removed when installing the soft top is included in the sale as a gift. Photos available on request. Also included, if desired, are two upgrades I didn't get around to installing: tubular side bars, color-matched replacement seat belts, and a black bimini top. *
This was basically a nearly-full overhaul restoration and refurb job, which went through this Jeep from top to bottom, sparing little expense in getting it to be a daily driver. Throughout the entire process of doing this, I wanted to keep it as original as possible, and stay true to the OEM 1989 look. The specifics of the process are listed below, as well as a link to my website, which walks through the restoration in a step by step process. (http://www.kdreeves.com/megaman-my-zef-89-yj-from-pickup-to-painted/) You can see the photos of the Jeep coming together in that blog entry.
The engine runs terrific. The body is solid: this is when Jeeps truly represented American quality, still retaining their lineage as military-grade vehicles as the steel body and solid frame suggests. This is a true classic, and not a vehicle you will come across very often with these miles, and this condition. I even took the time to track down the sales and mileage history from when this vehicle came off the assembly line (April 10, 1989) and the mileage at each transaction along the way. If nostalgia, history, and provenance matter to you, there is no better YJ you can buy. All documentation that I have, from the original bill of lading from the factory in Brampton to the most recent fix-up (replacing the old slip-on style ignition coil with a more reliable bolt-on model) is filed and included for you.
I was also a music teacher for a long time, and so I want tunes while bombing around beaches and boulevards, so I replaced the in-dash speakers with upgraded Kickers and added a sound bar as well as rear speakers, for 14 total speakers. It's a fun ride as well as a looker! So why am I selling it if I love it so?
Fair question, and the short answer is that I don’t want to sell "MegaMan," but I need to. This Jeep was a childhood dream, but my financial and family situation is in “transition” at the moment. I currently have another car that gets me from point A to point B (boring though it may be) so financial prudence dictates that I rip this Band-Aid off and let the Jeep go. It's not easy - as I type this, my nephew is asking "where your Jeep, Unca Keef?" but reality trumps my dream this time. I'd really like this vehicle to go to someone who will be as happy to have it as I was.
I’m not here to give you my sob story, but I do want to let you know the “why” behind why I would get rid of something into which I have invested so much time, love, and effort. I will miss "Mega" dearly. The next obvious question is, is it in as good a condition as I claim? Well one doesn't stake one's reputation on eBay on nonsense. Ask for a photo, and I'll provide it. Ask for details, I'll answer truthfully. And when you see it, I know you'll be pleased.
I am attempting to be as transparent as possible in this process, and am simply looking to make up some ground on what I have put into it. It is a 27 year old YJ, and it drives like exactly that. You’re not going to leap off the line. I consistently double-clutch third. It’s a military vehicle in its bones, and I make no claim that it's factory-new, as it has lived and played outside for almost three decades like any Jeep lover would want a Jeep to do. But it’s got great power and hammers along no problem. It's been over the beaches and dunes of the Outer Banks, through multi-foot snow drifts, cruised along I-66, and moseyed the streets of DC, and has been my daily driver for the year that I've owned it.
When I got "Mega," there was certainly some work to be done, and I've tried to do it diligently. I've done right by it, and it's done right by me.I am happy to answer any and all questions. I hope that between the pictures, the website, the granular list of restorations and refurbishments below, as well as this bit of our story together, you know what you are getting in this classic. I truly do believe this vehicle is the lowest mileage classic YJ you will come across, with OEM replacement parts and modern refurbishing done, to put it in great shape. I hate to see it go, but if you are a Jeep person, or have ever wanted a YJ, I think this is your find.Details
