1973 Jeep CJ CJ5 Additional Info:

You are bidding on a very rare 1973 AMC Jeep CJ5 in rust free original condition. Original V-8 304 engine (3) three speed with 8200 & change actual miles.
The Trans Am Red paint has softened to a patina red due to age after spending almost all its life in the desert southwest. The interior is also original.
It is technically on its second owner with no recorded collisions in its history nor does there appear to be any structural damage from an accident.
Normal wear, tear, minor dings and paint scratches excepted.
Plenty of torque is delivered from this little V8 and is a lot of fun to drive. I cannot stress enough that this 4 x 4 vehicle is rust & bondo free.
You can put a magnet on any part of this 4WD CJ. It still has the factory stamping on the valve cover. Even the OEM smog air pump system is intact and functional (very rare).
This beauty is loaded with just about every option that was available in 1973 except the Renegade or Super Jeep decal stripes and power brakes.
I do not have the Window Sticker, but the American Motors original build sheet is available to document the options ordered by the original owner.

The original White Whitco doors, bows and hardware are available, but the canvas top was discarded (unfortunately) due to dry rot and it is currently running a mesh bikini top.
This 4wd crawler is straight out of the early 70‘s with tasteful options. One of the few mechanical modifications was the dual exhaust conversion but is period correct for the 1970’s.
You would think these mufflers would be loud & obnoxious, instead they have a very quite note and sound the V8 rumble very well without any excessive decibel levels. I think 1973, was the
last catalyst free year for Jeeps from American Motors.
This is a great example of a very nice un- / non-restored original mile CJ5 with documents. It gets a thumbs up look every where it goes, draws crowds and is a very nice ride.
Keep in mind that she is not garage candy, but an awesome all original Jeep that is a blast from the past for the preservationist. The paint is all original and has blemishes,
scratches, minor dings and fade due to its age. The 31” Mickey Thompson tires are new with about 300 miles on them and installed on Kelsey Hayes type deep dish chrome rims
that are also period correct for the 70’s. Hope you like the Baby Moons!
Here are some things to note: The wiring harness is in great original condition. However, the desert dry climate has taken some toll on the plastic and some rubber components which are few.
Although they look great, the dash knobs are brittle but intact (it is extremely tough to find these silver mid year Jeep OEM knobs). I have read where some restorers use JB Weld to make
these knobs look and perform as they should). The defrost cable is broken (again) - I looked for a very long time to replace this defect & found a used one - After installation, the plastic
clip snapped behind the knob at the dash mount, so it will need replacing (hard to find item). The Jeep was inert and sat for a while under a canopy in Arizona. The rear fuel tank,
lines, mechanical fuel pump are new & the original AMC carburetor is rebuilt due to gum buildup - currently the fuel gauge is working but will only show a half tank when the rear tank is full.
I have a feeling that the problem lies with an improper fuel sending unit in the rear tank. All the other gauges work great. Typical of AMC V8s, the rear main seal leaks and drips a minor
amount of oil (about 5 drops of oil) on the floor which usually happens while the drivetrain is cooling down from normal operating temperature. The engine does not appear to be using any oil.
Although there were no cooling issues, the original heavy duty radiator was nasty with corrosion - So the radiator, OEM rebuilt water pump, TStat and hoses are either OEM or
New NOS parts and the system was flushed several times. Check out the NOS AMC belts and radiator hoses (very rare) - - It is now using distilled water and Amsoil radiator fluid.
A front passenger axle seal was leaking causing the front drum brakes to grab. New seals were installed and a complete rebuild of the front brakes with new parts (linings, springs,
adjusting pins, wheel cylinders & etc). The rear brakes are amazing originals and show almost no wear at all and were left as is. The ole gal now stops as designed. Master cylinder
and lines were flushed with new Brake Fluid.
Engine, Front & Rear axles are running Amsoil synthetic lubricants. I haven’t got around to servicing the Transmission or Transfer Case as yet, but these fluids are available.
There is a very desirable 4X4 CJ that will hold its own with any Bronco, Scout, Range Rover or Land Cruiser. A Great Example of a very Well Preserved JEEP with fewer than 8,300 miles on the clock.
She is a nice ride and there are not many midyear’s around in this condition.
The Tires, of course, are not original and have about 300 miles on them since new in 2014, and black fender moldings are new. The paint is all original, but has blemishes,
some scratches and fade due to its age. Everything works except as noted including the Vintage Winch & bumper mounted Spotlights. This CJ is a 43 year old vehicle and is described
based on my used car perception, (wear and tear expected), and really nothing to be concerned about. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have thoroughly inspected the vehicle and
to have satisfied himself or herself as to the condition and value and to bid based upon that judgment solely. You are more than Welcome to inspect this great four wheel drive car by appointment.
