1980 Jeep CJ CJ-5 Additional Info:

Vehicle is located in Melbourne, Florida (zip 32904).Up for sale is my beautiful 80 CJ-5. This CJ was restored in 2013 (at $80k miles), and is originally from Alabama. The restoration was a frame-off full body & chassis prep, prime and paint as well as mechanical/electrical overhaul. All hardware was replaced with stainless. The only omissions from this restoration were the spare tire, both front and rear passenger seats, and a soft top. I have the original passenger seats and they are in usable (but rough) condition. I also have a bikini top from BestTop. Other than the aftermarket driver seat, everything on this CJ is stock or its aftermarket equivalent.
The good:
+ Engine: I6-258. As part of restoration, piston rings were replaced and valves lapped / tuned where necessary. Has excellent compression on all cylinders. I am always amazed at how much low end torque this carbureted engine produces.
+ Carburetor: BBD Carb. Rebuilt last summer; engine starts up on first crank and idles smoothly. No hesitation.
+ Trans: Tremec T-176. Four speed manual trans. Shifts smoothly, and good enough for the I6.
+ Transfer case: Dana 300 in excellent condition. 2H/4H/4L all work as expected.
+ Front drive: Dana 30 in excellent condition.
+ Rear drive: AMC 8-7/8" Ring, in good condition*.
+ Disc hydraulic brakes front and rear, in excellent condition.
+ New exterior and interior paint job.
+ All switches, instruments (Tachometer, DC, Fuel, Oil), lights (low/high beams, turn signals) work except for intermittent problem with temperature gauge**.
+ Installed pair of 6" removable marine speakers and CD player in marine case.
+ No body/frame rust.
+ Garage kept.
+ Kept in loving care. Used well, but never abused.
The bad:
+ * Rear differential has a **slight** leak. It is so small its hasn't been worth the project of replacing the gasket until there is another reason to open up the rear diff -- a bit of cardboard where you park and checking the oil level every 6 months is enough for now.
+ ** Temp gauge works when key is in the 'on' position, but stops working while engine running. Strange, but also something not worth taking apart the dash for until another project comes along.
+ This isn't a showroom quality vehicle; I used it as a daily driver for a while, and light trail use. Expect the obvious scuffs and wear that an actual jeep would have. I have highlighted in the pictures the only bad spot where it appears a 1/2" scratch has formed a bit of rust that will eventually have to be addressed.
+ The steering is manual (no power steering). This ultimately can limit what the jeep is capable of -- a prospective buyer interested in taking the vehicle into more trail use would want to address this. The manual steering is fine for road travel and light trail use.
+ The steering box has a noticeable amount of backlash ("play") in it. It is likely just servicing the steering system won't compensate for the play in the steering column; rebuilding the steering box has been on my to-do list, but finding suitable parts is always difficult.
+ The exhaust is rusty, and should be replaced.
