FOR SALE: 1984 JAGUAR XJ6 SIII 4.2 – BRITISH RACING GREEN

In my care for just short of 2 years, the Jaguar spent the previous 12 years in dry storage in Tacoma, Washington. When the owner passed, the Jag went to his nephew from whom I purchased her. Since then I have done some recommissioning work, (brakes, fuel tanks & lines flushed, minor electrical repairs, several oil/filter changes) and lightly used her as a second car in and around Los Angeles. Her longest single trip was 240 miles return and she behaved perfectly.

As you can see, she looks absolutely gorgeous, especially in the California sunshine. That's not to say nothing needs doing however! The car is completely original, including the paint which, although nice and shiny metallic British Racing Green, (perfect for a Jag!), has at some point in the past spent time under a tree, so there are some stubborn sap residue marks which have resisted manual polishing efforts. I'm told that an afternoon in a bodyshop with industrial paint finishing products and an electric mop should see it restored. She does not need a respray. The last few photos show what I mean.

Glass and chrome are both excellent. The body is entirely rust-free and (almost) everything that should work does work*, although the A/C could do with a recharge I think. Or it could just be that car designers in chilly, damp Coventry had little idea of climactic conditions in Southern California! The interior woodwork is in very good condition and the dash pad is not cracked or faded. The leather seats have dried out in storage. Repeated feeding has improved the suppleness somewhat and, although there are no rips or tears in the leather, some repairs to the stitching are required. The seats are the only thing really that lets the Jag down.

Mechanically everything works as it should, transmission shifts cleanly, 4.2 straight six engine is smooth, exceptionally quiet and reasonably powerful. Oil pressure is very healthy as can be seen from the picture. Passed smog with no problems. The car comes with a clear CA Title and Tags up to date until November '17. Front suspension had new dampers just before it went into store and the ride is exactly as it should be for a Jag XJ6: just about perfect and way better than anything modern. It does squeak a little sometimes, as does the power steering on full lock, although both have gradually improved with use.

* Mileage is showing as 109,525 and will continue to do so until the mileometer is fixed. I reckon I've done around 4,000 miles in two years and the car's condition suggests that 110-120,000 is about right. The white leatherette spare wheel cover is still present as is the original toolkit, handbook and service folder. The Jaguar radio cassette is still present and works although the speakers are intermittent.

I'm an ex-pat Brit. I bought the Jag as a reminder of home and for tooling around LA! I have thoroughly enjoyed it but my first love is 80's/90's BMWs and I have just found a near perfect E34 Touring after a very long search, so my Jag has to go to a new caring home.

This is an open auction with no reserve so the highest bidder will take the car. If you win, I need to hear from you pretty much immediately please and a $500 deposit via PayPal is required within 48 hours. I am happy to work with a shipping company but I will not release the car without cleared funds in my bank account or cash in my hand! If these things don't happen, the car will either be offered to the next highest bidder or will be re-listed. The car is listed for sale locally, so may be withdrawn from auction if I get an offer I like.

I have described the car as best I can and the photographs support that description but its an old car and as such it is sold “As Is, Where Is” and there will be NO post-auction price negotiation, so please do call for any more information you need, or if you want to come see the car. My name is Paul and my number is (818) 915-9241.
