1982 Isuzu Other DLX Additional Info:

After owning this 1982 Isuzu P’up Diesel 5 Speed Longbed for some ten years or so, I have finally decided to let it go to someone who has more time to restore it or customize it properly. I received this truck as a gift from the original owner, a neighbor, who bought it new in 1983. It has lived its life entirely in California’s Central Valley where the air is dry and rain is infrequent, so there is no rust or rot at all. The truck, up until about two years ago, was used as a daily driver or weekend errand vehicle and has just less than 300,000 miles on it. It has never been in an accident. Except for the transmission, chrome rims, and camper shell, it is completely stock and unmodified. It has been garaged most of its life but because it lives in Bakersfield it has had plenty of sun while parked at work during the day. The truck starts right up every time and runs smooth as silk. It consistently gets about 38 mpg. The transmission guts are out of a 1995 gas pickup with zero miles at the time of rebuild, much stronger than the stock transmission. It has less than 200 miles on it since the transmission swap. It shifts crisp and strong, just like new.

Here is a list of the good things or repairs in the last two to three years:

  • new water pump
  • rebuilt alternator/vacuum pump
  • rebuilt radiator
  • all new radiator and heater hoses
  • all new fan belts
  • new thermostat
  • valves adjusted
  • new u joints
  • brake job
  • new clutch/resurfaced flywheel/throw out bearing
  • new transmission guts (new old stock, not rebuilt, less than 200 miles on it now)
  • trailer wiring installed--tested with u haul trailer, works perfectly
  • rebuilt injectors (didn't need it--was trying to boost mpg)
  • a/c updated to new refrigerant (costly, required modification using Toyota parts, works GREAT!)
  • new turn signal switch
  • all electricals work fine: headlight high/low, turn, brake, running, plate lights, back up lights
  • all instruments work unless otherwise indicated--speedometer, odometer, fuel, temperature, oil light, water in fuel filter light, glow plug light

The Bad:

  • leaks in pinion seal in rear end, engine oil and power steering. Must check every month or so.
  • Engine has blowby, smokes on start up
  • radio doesn't work--hasn't worked in decades
  • idiot lights for temperature and fuel may or may not work--i don't know, they never come on
  • various dings in body, nothing major, all original paint
  • paint oxidized on hood and on cab roof--happened relatively recently and quickly, perhaps the wax i used?
  • needs rear tires
  • could use all new shocks
  • seats need reupholstering
  • could use a carpet kit
  • needs an alignment, torsion bars adjusted for height
  • pits and small cracks in original windshield, no major or running cracks
  • Minor interior things such as dash door and passenger shade don't work perfectly
  • speedometer and odometer are not accurate due to transmission upgrade--requires $15 part
  • driver door interior light switch doesn't work
  • backup light disconnected--just needs to be plugged in
  • neutral safety switch disconnected--i did this because i found it annoying

This truck would make an excellent base for restoration or customization. It runs well but keep in mind it is a 35 year old truck with 300,000 miles on it with all the wear and tear one would expect. It is not perfect and I encourage potential buyers to look at the truck first before bidding.

The truck is located in Bakersfield, CA and you must make arrangements to pick it up or ship it. I will not deliver it. I would not hesitate to drive it a few hundred miles or more, with new rear tires on it, but shipping arrangements are up to you. I can assist with helping to load it for a transporter. Of course, the truck must be paid for and funds cleared before it ships or you take delivery. I am requiring a $500 deposit via Paypal within 24 hours after auction ends and the remainder of funds to be in cash or a cashier's check which must clear before the truck leaves my property.

I am starting the bidding at $2750 with no reserve. To the winning bidder: if you arrive to take possession and are not satisfied with the truck, I will gladly refund your deposit and offer the truck to the next highest bidder. I have the clear title in my name. The registration is paid up until January, 2018. Both plates on on the rear of truck. Please ask any questions you have before bidding and I will answer them to the best of my ability. I reserve the right to end this auction early even if there are bids as I have the truck advertised for sale elsewhere.
