1977 International Harvester Scout Additional Info:

The BEST authentic SS we have ever seen, this Scout was recently purchased from the Senior Citizen that bought it brand new over 40 years ago. Until our purchase just a few moths ago, this Scout never left Southern California where it was sold originally. His total use over all those years was just 53,900 miles and unlike most of these older Scouts, this one saw very little off-highway use and even at that was never abused. His service and care for the truck was always excellent and he kept it nearly all original except for a few minor add-ons done long ago. Knowing and loving these International Scouts you quickly realize that their biggest obstacle to survive was the plague of RUST. Check out our pictures of the original paint floors, paint wearing thru to shiny bare metal, simply amazing. As rugged a vehicle as they are, the corrosion protection of the day was less than adequate and Scouts from anywhere other than a dry climate just seemed to self destruct from rust corrosion. This particular one is incredible in that it is 100% rust free, never had any rust repairs and does not show one ounce of damage anywhere. The owner was emphatic that he never ever had the vehicle in any inclement weather other that an occasional rain and that it was also garaged every day of its life thus avoiding the one problem we often see in Southwest vehicles, severe sun damage.
PLEASE NOTE: We ended this listing early unsold with active bidding last week after question was raised as to its authenticity as a FACTORY BUILT SUPER SCOUT.After more research we have determined it POSITIVELY is a FACTORY BUILT ORIGINAL SUPER SCOUT from new. No question-----We guarantee it is!!!
It is important to note that this 1977 International is an authentic factory built SSII with optional 345ci V8 and rarely seen. Additional options along with Automatic Transmission are Power Steering and Power Brakes. As these SS models have become sought after in recent years, many have been converted to be SS convertibles with the availability of all the reproduction parts. This is NOT what we have here. This Scout was delivered new exactly as you see it here and all of the unique Scout SS pics on this vehicle are authentic to 1977 with the exception of the plastic grill which we replaced being it was slightly damaged at one corner. Amazingly the convertible top and side curtains are original to the car, showing some age & wear but likely one of very few that have survived the ages. All of the interior is original except for front seat upholstery and very nice, again evidence of the good care this Scout has had over the years. The vehicle was overall repainted a few years back correcting what we are told was very thin paint and multiple small nicks and scrapes. Exact reproduction SS vinyl striping was replaced at that time. Our only cosmetic work was to pull the front and rear bumpers to be redone in correct satin black but powder coated for durability. They came out great.
This Scout runs and drives excellent with no mechanical problems and a perfectly functioning four-wheel-drive system with manual locking front hubs. Everything works as intended including all gauges and lamps. Steering and suspension components are all in good order and a safety check of the brakes gave good results. Tires are only slightly worn showing deep tread and matching spare is brand new on a swing-out exterior carrier assembly. This vehicle can be driven safely and reliably anywhere.
Please look over our pictures where we have tried to demonstrate how special this Scout SS really is. This is not another old broke down survivor that was resurrected to live again in the hot early SUV market, this is a rare find, an original that never fell into disrepair and was always cared for properly. There cannot be many like this as these Scouts were not ordinarily bought to be cherished as this one was. Call on us with any and all questions or come to Erie, PA for a look yourself. Good luck in bidding on our Scout SSII. If you prevail you will not be disappointed.
