1966 Ford Mustang Coupe

Advertisements became popular reminders of the Mustang's youthful spirit, such as one featuring two mature adults sitting in a new Mustang with the words, "Youth is a wonderful thing. What a crime to waste it on children." It was the car to have it you were seeking the fountain of youth. The 1966 Ford Mustang was the car to have if you were looking to win over your neighbor or hit the road for fun and adventure. It was also a must-have for enthusiastic drivers and car enthusiasts who simply liked to drive.

For consignment, a 1966 Ford Mustang from California. This car has an aftermarket air conditioner, Ford power steering, a power brake booster and spinner hub caps. Consigner states the car was always garage kept and is in original condition with a respray. It is all looking just fine with this consignment, a very stellar example of what the allure of owning a Mustang was in 1966.

Exterior
The prancing horse works its way across the front egg crate grille, which presents nearly perfect. On either corner upfront, a single headlight is recessed into the finned panels directly next to the grille and the body matching headlight bezel. Just below a simple chromed shiny bumper is attached, and below this is another body matching panel with round signal lights and a license plate holder with dual vertical chromed bumper-ettes. FORD badging races across the hood which goes rearward all the while being flanked by the front quarters with their badging just behind the wheel well. For the well minded gapped doors the beginnings of the hockey stick cove which ends in an angles finned "vent" on the front of the rear quarter, and now you can see why it is called the hockey stock cove! For this consignment, Springtime Yellow in very good condition covers the steel panels which are rust free. On top is a nice black vinyl top, and surrounding windows sport nice trimmings. The top is in like new condition. For the back the iconic dual trios of outward V shaped taillights with nice bezels between each V, a centrally located large badged gas cap, and an inset bumper below also looking great. Mustang wheels with those spinner hub caps along with a stainless rocker trim finish off the bottom of this breath of spring air car.

Interior
Looking inside the parchment color vinyl is in full bloom in here, with said material on the door panels, seats, and headliner. All surfaces are slightly worn, with the door sills receiving the brunt of the wear. Seats have tuck and roll inserts, and smooth surrounding bolsters. Upfront an original dash is seen in black and parchment two tone, and in true Mustang form, rounded gauges with shiny chromed bezels which are in panels created by the dual curved padded black dash top. In the center is a radio, temp sliders, and aftermarket air hanging below the dash. Brown carpet floods the floors, some wear is showing along with some fading, and has the simple T style shift lever in the middle of the hump. Up above is a tight headliner, and a shout out to the trunk, where we can see some nice plaid vinyl covering the interior of the trunk floor, complete with spare tire and jack setup. All fairly clean and slightly worn for the overall interior.

Drivetrain
A 200ci inline 6-cylinder takes root under the hood and is in a nice engine bay which presents clean with supple wires and hoses with no cracks. On back is a Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission and power is put to the ground thru a 2.83 geared conventional rear axle.

Undercarriage
All very clean with slight patina, and even some original factory primed in red steel on the floorpans. All is rust free and structurally sound underneath, with power hydraulic drum brakes all around. Independent front suspension is on and in back the leaf spring setup is bolted to solid steel framing. Underneath door panels at the bottoms some rust drippings but no invasive rust seen here.

Drive-Ability
My mother had one of these in this exact color, so I remember driving with her in it. I've never driven one, so I jumped at the chance mostly due to the color and the memories. This car started easily, and with a short warmup to get her going smoothly, it was off to the test track. Here it had nice acceleration, snappy steering, and good braking. All was well with functions too.

A good example of this popular car, with nice paint, chrome and some extras. It runs like a champ and has no rust in sight. The color combo is good, and the black vinyl top is very nicely preserved. Simple but elegant, this car definitely will grow on you.
