Description

1967 marked the first major redesign of the Mustang since it took the world by storm in 1964. The new for 67 car returned with three body styles - convertible, notchback coupe and fastback, but all were larger overall and designed to accommodate higher capacity engines from further up the Ford lineup. As before, the six-cylinder served as the base engine, moving up to the 289 V8. But now, thanks to that larger engine bay, Ford engineers could shoehorn the FE-based 390 cubic inch V8 from the Thunderbird into the comparatively smaller and lighter Mustang. Thanks to its 320 horsepower and 427 ft-lbs of torque, the little pony car from Ford was now a full-blown Muscle Car. The 390 was available in standard or GT form, and in all body styles. Today, 390-equipped Mustangs are highly sought-after by collectors for their rarity and tremendous performance.

RB Collection is offering this very attractive 1967 Mustang Fastback 390. Starting with a genuine S-Code car as a base, this beautiful example was restored and upgraded to GT-looks some time back. The body is straight and clean with good panel fit and consistent gaps, evidence that it was never a rust bucket or seriously abused. The floors are original and completely solid, a real rarity among this era of Mustang. The vintage burgundy paint looks beautiful on this body, and is in very good condition with few flaws. Chrome and bright work are all in very good order, complete straight and clean. The cosmetics have been further enhanced with the addition of GT-style stripes, emblems and chrome styled-steel wheels, giving a great look. The interior has been restored using correct-style black upholstery, black headlining and panels. It was originally equipped with the center console and overhead console which remain in place and it has been further enhanced with the addition of a wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel and a classic Sunpro tachometer.

Mechanically, it is in very good condition having just been serviced with a brand-new replacement Flaming River manual steering box. A four-speed manual transmission has displaced the original automatic, and the car is a blast to drive thanks to the huge torque from the 390. The engine bay is tidy and clean, with room to improve for fans of original-style details, or can be left as is and enjoyed without worry. An iconic 60s muscle car, this is a rare and desirable Mustang that has all the right looks and is fun to drive.

.

This is a very tidy and clean example with great bodywork, very nice paint and a solid structure with excellent original floors. It runs and drives well, and delivers storming performance from the big 390 up front. This is a very good driver-level car that can be shown with pride at a hobby level, and then driven home. There is room for improving the underhood detail, but it is currently functional and tidy. This is very attractive and usable example in great cosmetic condition.
