1942 Ford Other Convertible Additional Info:

Very well executed frame-off restoration on a hard to find 1942 Super Deluxe Convertible! Retaining the original 221ci Flathead V8 but fitted with rare Eddie Meyer Hollywood performance heads and intake, dual Stromberg carburetion, Mitchell overdrive, 12-volt alternator charging, Red's headers, Smitty exhaust, and so much more! With the anticipation of the war effort to begin, all automotive manufacturers ceased civilian production early into the 1942 to focus production on military equipment and supplies. At Ford Motor Co., production on... cars and trucks halted on February 10, 1942. Unique attributes make the limited production 1942 model examples easier to spot from their 1941 predecessor. These included a new grill with an electric shaver design appearance, relocated the parking lights higher above the grills, horizontal taillights instead of vertical, round speedometer & clock housings which allowed them to move the radio lower in the dash, along with other changes. Total Ford production for 1942 models hit just over 160,000 vehicles, with nearly 90,000 being top-of-the-line Super Deluxe models. Of those, the rarest would be the convertible club coupe with production reaching only 2,920 vehicles. Today, that are the hardest to find in any shape or condition. We feel this example offered here is one of the finest on the market! We are excited to offer this 1942 Ford Super Deluxe Convertible Club Coupe finished in Burgundy over Brown Leather interior with Tan Haartz Stayfast convertible soft top! Hailing from the prestigious collection of Richard L. Burdick in Texas, you can be assured this car was always keep in the best driving condition as possible! Options include 3-speed column-shifted transmission, AM radio with windshield antenna, added turn signals & front lap belts for safety, dual outside rearview mirrors, Coker Classic 6.00x16 wide whitewall radial tires, front & rear bumper guards, interior heater unit (not presently plumbed up), and Auto Meter gauges under the dash to provide engine temp and oil pressure readings. This car does have some modern improvements to ensure it can perform at its peak in all conditions. Under the hood lies the original 221ci Flathead V8 which is now fitted with very rare Eddie Meyer Hollywood finned aluminum performance heads, matching dual intake manifold, and twin Stromberg 81 carburetors! Further enhancements include an aluminum Offenhauser mount to convert the old generator charging system to a newer 12-volt negative ground system. A Weiand aluminum bracket allows a billet brace & pulley to hold a 6-blade cooling fan for added airflow. The factory crab-style distributor is hiding pointless ignition inside with the help of a MSD Blaster "high vibration" coil. An inline auxiliary oil filter hides at the front under the radiator to double as an oil cooler. True dual exhaust feeds through Red's performance headers with Smittys mufflers for a perfect flathead growl out chrome tips! The improvements don't end there! The drive shaft is now fitted with a Mitchell Gear-Splitter Model 1000 V8 overdrive unit with 26% reduction/speed increase on all 3 gears to better allow highway speeds for cruising! This is utilized with the optional "push-pull" cable operation lever located on the steering column. This car does show as an older, very well executed frame-off restoration! The underside of the body is painted as equally sharp as the top side with the chassis and suspension components shown is gloss black! It has been driven and enjoyed since completion, so it continues to impress any driver behind the wheel! Once you get the hang of the synchromesh Mitchell Gear-Splitter, you really can enjoy this outstanding Super Deluxe at any cruising speed! We believe 1942 was the first year where the front tracking bar & the use of an anti-sway bar were standard in Deluxe cars which vastly improves the front end feel! We encourage any interested party to call immediately with questions and offers. This rare Convertible will be very difficult to replace, or try to build again at this price!!
