1942 Ford Deluxe Deluxe Additional Info:

This 1942 Ford Deluxe (not Super Deluxe) 4-door sedan, titled as a 1941 (it was built in December, 1941), has had virtually everything rebuilt with the exception of the differential. I have two automobile projects, this and a 1962 Tbird Sports roadster, room for one, and seriously declining stores of energy and ambition to finish. So, at least one of them has to go. My father always told me that getting old wasn't much fun...
Anyway, the car has been stripped down to virtually the last bolt (differential not included...). The frame was cleaned and painted.
The body was sent to the body shop, where it was repaired, primed and painted original Ford Fathom blue. The engine was completely rebuilt with new bearings, pistons, valves, adjustable lifters, oil pump, timing gear. It is the correct 1942 block, bored 20 over. The starter, generator, and carburetor are all rebuilt and correct. It has new water pumps, a new clutch, and a re-cored radiator. All the wiring is new and correct. The motor has not been started since it was rebuilt (I haven't figured out the wiring; electricity is a mystery to me...), so it may take some work to get it running. The battery is a new Optima drycell housed in their fake period-looking shell. The gas tank, gas line, and fuel pump are new. The suspension, front and rear, has been rebuilt, with all new brakes (new springs, shoes, wheel and master cylinders, hoses). It has four original, working (more or less) shocks. The lights, front and rear, have been rebuilt. The bumpers are correct (1942 Deluxe used 1941 Super Deluxe bumpers), but are of mediocre quality. They came From Bumper Boys in California, and that is a mistake I am not likely to make again--they are good enough for casual use, but I planned to get better ones later on. However, the bumper guards are pretty nice... The heater is correct for 1942 and rebuilt. All the instruments are NOS and should work perfectly. Deluxes didn't come with a clock, but it was an available option; I like the way it balances the dashboard, so I put one (NOS) in. The dashboard and the window surrounds have been woodgrained; the glass is new all around, with the correct window bugs (all except for the rear window, which is original). The steering wheel is nicely restored..but the horn button is stuck. I think I'll probably remove the center that's in the button now and replace it with the plain plastic one that came with the car (if you buy this thing, you'll get both buttons, of course). The one it had is not nearly as pretty, but it is a bit deeper, so it might solve the problem. The five wheels are repainted correctly (no stripes); the tires are the correct blackwalls and brand new. The hubcaps are correct reproductions. The interior kit is correct for the year and model, and is in the process of being installed. The front and rear seats have been professionally upholstered, and look pretty good. The door and window handles are all new. The door locks are reproductions--lousy quality--so I had the originals rebuilt for installation. The transmission was professionally rebuilt, as was the brake/clutch pedal assembly. The exhaust pipe/muffler are new and in the process of being installed. The trunk handle/lock is new. The stainless trim is nice originals, with pretty, new reproduction rear view mirrors on the cowls. I do not have a set of sun visors for the car, nor the panels to complete the trunk; other than that, I can't think of anything of any significance that is missing. The car comes with some manuals, catalogs, and a few years of the journal of the classic Ford V8 club (lots of pictures of '32 through '53 Fords you'd like to own...), as well as a few redundant parts I've ended up with.
I think that just about covers it; if you have any questions, by all means ask. My cell phone number is 856-534-1013, and I always enjoy talking about old cars. The car is located in Mickleton, New Jersey, about 20 miles south of Philadelphia/Camden and easily accessible from US95, 295, 55, and the New Jersey Turnpike. I have no idea how much I've spent on this machine over the years, but it's a lot more than the no reserve opening bid. It's been a lot of fun working on it and searching out the parts, but I just don't have the stamina I had a few years ago, and I spend more time thinking "I ought to get back to work on that" than actually doing it, so I'll be happy to see it go to its next good home. The buyer is, of course, responsible for transportation. I'd like a three hundred dollar nonrefundable deposit upon sale, the rest to be cash or a certified bank check when you pick up the car. Ebay says payment must be made in 14 days, but ignore that; if it takes a few weeks for you to organize coming to get the car, it's no problem. I won't need the garage space it occupies probably until sometime in September.
