History of the 1983 Ford MustangIn 1983, Ford offered a Mustang Convertible for the first time since 1973. These cars were not designed from the outset as convertibles, but rather left the factory as coupes and were sent to third-party company Cars & Concepts of Brighton, Michigan for conversion.

The sophomore year of the GT Mustang would see the carburetor of the 5.0-liter V-8 upgraded to a Holley four-barrel unit. This raised output to 175 horsepower and 245 pound feet of torque, sent through a new Borg-Warner 5-speed manual transmission and an updated 3.27:1 rear end. Wider Michelin tires helped put power to the road and an enlarged stabilizer bar added to the enhancements. According to Ford, the Mustang GT 5.0 could get from 0-60 mph in under seven seconds. Its 175-hp output made it the most powerful Mustang since 1973.

A turbocharged Mustang returned for 1983, but without the gaudy Cobra graphics. Available on the GT, the 2.3-liter, four-cylinder turbo made 145 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. The base engine continued to be an anemic 88-hp four cylinder, but a mid-range 3.8-liter V6 now made 112hp.

Slight styling revisions included a smoother nose, updated taillights, and a reverse hood scoop. The Ford Blue Oval logo replaced F-O-R-D block lettering for this year.

The presence of the convertible option and the availability of the T-Tops meant Ford no longer had to offer the dated “Carriage roof.” The Ford Mustang was offered in L, LX, and GLX levels. 120,873 Fox body Mustangs were sold in 1983.

The Boss is back video:https://youtu.be/6Yz8H_3BW5wWell optioned with leather blue bucket seats, air conditioning, 5spd manual, high output 5.0L V8, power steering, power brakes, front discs, tilt wheel, cruise control, premium sound system, & PosiTraction rear axle. The beautiful blue exterior perfectly accents the matching blue interior. I would rate this Mustang a 9 out of a perfect 10....Original, everything works, drives straight, plenty of power and clear title...all service and parts records included. There are a couple of imperfections...minor. One of the sunvisor clip is missing, there is a small crack developing in the windshield and a tire will need to be replaced....all tires appear new, but one one the rear has a broken belt in it. I would also suggest a new convertible top, a new top is not needed, but does have a few signs of wear....minor!This Mustang has been in storage with only 62,000 original miles....starts up every time and shifts smooth....just drove it 250 miles this weekend....you can drive it anywhere.I will add more pictures as soon as the weather permits. My cell phone number is (417)300 6471 if you have questions. This will be a 7 day auction, I accept cash, bank wire transfer or certified check....we can discuss other options if you’d like. These cars sell for anywhere from $12,000 to $25,000. I’ll start the auction low and no reserve....payment must be made and car picked up within 7 days of auction end....I need the garage space...thank you!Again, more photos will be posted as weather permits!
