Eddie's Chop Shop 1937 Mid Engine Coupe

Custom built Supercar and Hotrod. With the Worlds Fastest Gas LS engine at 385 mph.

This is a very unique opportunity to own a true one of a kind vehicle with some serious modern day history in the making. I started building this car around 10 years ago to be my own personal supercar killer. With the ability to do road racing/autocross, drag racing/standing mile events. I wanted something with the performance to compete and beat any modern supercar and still have that classic Hotrod style!

For a first hand review of the car read the following review done by the great staff over at Hot Rod Magazine.

https://www.hotrod.com/articles/hrdp-1303-couprageous-1937-ford-coupe/

This is a LSX based mid-engine mated to a Ford GT transaxle. The car has been hand built around a tubular chassis/cage to make a safe hi performance platform. The GT transaxle was chosen for its unbelievable strength to handle the Torque and HP of a twin turbo LSX. The body started out as a genuine original Ford all steel 1937. Nearly every inch of the body has been cut and massaged to make a shape that people would assume could only be done with fiberglass. Which is one of the reasons for leaving it bare steel. The quality and work involved is on full display. Or it is the perfect opportunity for you to throw on the wild paint of your choice.

The engine was built to handle huge boost and still be a street driveable reliable combination. After initially building the car I was invited to do a Hot Rod magazine challenge. It consisted of a 3 day flog in which the 37 dominated every category. Drag race, Autocross and Dyno challenge. As stated in the Hot Rod article the car has more than hit the goals for performance and reliability. The midengine platform makes for a very spacious interior. While being super low the car has a ton of headroom and legroom, yes you will fit fine even if your tall. Unless your a 7' freak then we may need to test fit you.

To make this car one step even cooler, the engine has made some serious history over the last couple years. Since I am a small hot rod shop, I have swapped the engine into two other cars to go after my dream of setting a land speed record at the Bonneville salt flats. The first car that the engine went into was a 1927 Ford roadster that competed in the rear modified roadster class. It set 3 different records in that car at Bonneville and El Mirage. Bumping its own records on a couple of occasions. Reaching a top speed of 276 mph. My newest car is a custom built 4 wheel drive streamliner. Less than 3 weeks ago the streamliner accomplished the goal of not only a class record but was the fastest gasoline powered car in the world! With a timed mile speed of 385 mph. The car will be going back to the salt in mid Spetember to try to reset our existing record to over 400mph. After that meet the engine will be gone through and be ready to be reinstalled into the 37 for the new owner. Yup thats right the 37 will be sporting the worlds fastest gasoline engine with a speed already of 385 mph and possibly over 400 by then! Over the years the engine has gone back into the 37 to be street driven between record setting Speedweek events. This engine makes a reliable 1100plus rear wheel hp on pump gas and 15psi. With the boost turned up the engine is capable of over 2500 hp.

There are several pcs that were custom built just for this car and engine combination. The intake is a hand built one of a kind pc including integral air to water intercoolers. The Headers are also custom made for the packaging of the 37, as is the rest of the piping. I custom built all the adapters required to mate the LS to the ford transaxle. The adapter is a pc of billet 1” thick aluminum machined to extremely precise tollerances. The LSX is a tall deck race block, with LSX DR heads and a dry sump oil system. The oil tank is hidden under the front fender.

If you just love the car but think that the engine may be more than you want and would prefer a stock LS based engine that can be arranged also. A stock LS engine in this car would still be a ton of fun. 400 hp in a go kart! Give me a call or use the best offer option and write in a note that the offer is based on a stock engine.

I own a full service shop in Sacramento CA and can make any modifications to the car to fit your needs or preferences.

Custom built by Ed Umland of Eddie's Chop Shop located in Sacramento CA. I have been building custom vehicles for many years and have received many awards and accolades for my builds. I have been featured in many magazine articles. I am a member of the Bonneville 200 and 300 mph clubs, the El Mirage 200 mph club and I am an SCTA inspector during speedweek. I build custom Hot Rods and Race cars full time out of my shop. I can do any additional work you would like done in house. If you do a search for me you can see some of my builds online.

Some videos and more pictures of the car running can be found at Eddie's Chop Shop on facebook. Also videos from inside and outside the record setting runs in the land speed cars.

The car is being listed now for the opportunity of the potential buyer to come and see the record setting runs in Sept on the Bonneville salt flats. The car will not be available for pick up until a couple weeks after the event unless the car is purchased without engine.
