1938 Ford Other Additional Info:

1938 Ford “Standard” Tudor Sedan. Original survivor, V8 60 car. Car sat for 30+ years in a garage and was brought back to life about 4 years ago. Door sticker from 1976 shows 25,163 miles and today speedometer reads 26,179. Cars has had recent plugs, wires, Stromberg 81 carb rebuilt, fuel pump rebuilt, distributor serviced, Skip Haney rebuilt coil, 6V battery, (mechanical) brakes adjusted, wheels blasted and powder coated, and new Coker 5.50x16 tires/ tubes installed. All lights and gauges are working.

Car has the rare and sought after “tube” front axle, cast iron V8-60 engine, and 3.5” wide 16” wheels, including spare. All of the original V8 60 peculiar equipment such as radiator, radiator air deflectors, generator pulley, small transmission, and 4.40 rear axle are present.

Car was originally black and has been repainted at least once over the years. Hood is warped/damaged like most other 38 Fords, so I just use a prop to hold it open. Trunk hold open rod has a broken spring so I took it off for safety (included with car). All of the unique 38 Standard stainless is present and accounted for (hard to find this trim!).

Car has original interior still present and that unique “old car upholstery smell”. Has hole in headliner above driver’s side sunvisor that can’t be seen behind sunvisor; door upholstery is rough around the door handles. I did manage to round up one or two of the missing pieces of interior trim and they are included with the car.

11-37 dated glass, some of which is starting to fog. Windshield rolls in/out and front windows roll up/down. Side windows are stuck and don’t roll down. Windshield wiper doesn’t work. Gasket is missing around the windshield.

Transmission jumps out of second on deceleration (classic old Ford issue); I rounded up a NOS synchronizer assembly and a NOS second gear but haven’t installed them yet. Driver’s side exhaust manifold is cracked; I have purchased a set of replacement manifolds but haven’t had the time to install them.

Car is from IL and was undercoated early in its life. It has had a few patches done here and there a long, long time ago as evidenced by some old school brazing and lead work. Real nice floors and trunk; frame is solid; door bottoms are good. I have tried to include plenty of photos to show condition. I have more but couldn't get more than 24 to upload.

I drive the car between 40 and 45 MPH due to the gearing. It drives and steers easily, tracks straight and true, and at these speeds the cable brakes are quite effective. Based on my experience with other old Fords I believe the mileage to be 126,179 miles.

The car has such a nice old school patina and character that I hated to do anything to the interior/exterior. My plans were for a V8 85 flathead conversion or possibly an old school 283/327 SBC with powerpak heads and a dropped front axle. I was then going to use the V8 60 drivetrain to build a hiboy Model A roadster pickup. I just have too many projects and too little time.

Personal inspections are welcome. Car is currently tagged and insured. Car is sold with GA bill of sale only as GA didn’t title new cars until 1964 and won’t reissue a title past 1986. I have sold out of state on many occasions and a notarized bill of sale along with the existing tag receipt has always been good for other DMVs. Check with your DMV before bidding!
